Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Control of Noxious Weeds in Ireland (and EU)

Ok. Cat amongst the pigeons time. Why the hell do we see SO much Ragwort in fields around Ireland, not just the fields but the roads and rails too. Has this Country really lost the plot that much that it will allow the foolishness of certain lazy or ignorant land-owners to allow seed dispersal to destroy this green and beautiful countryside? Is it not the law to rid the lands of such weeds? The fields of Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo are riddled with Ragwort as if grown with pride. If someone owns the land, clear it... if the State owns the land, clear it.... no excuses. Japanese Knotweed is another ignored pest. If these are not controlled now, Ireland (known for it's love of horses) will become a laughing stock. Nobody will be interested in buying land or housing from outside the Country if they see estates covered in yellow. These hopeless land-managers should be fined/prosecuted for their lack of concern for the environment.
Now.... don't have a go at me... I'm just voicing the opinion of many.
In this area, we are surrounded by fields now full of this vile weed thanks to the efforts of one farmer who 'can't be arsed' to top his one field or pull the Ragwort. Nobody wants to sh*t on their neighbour but he's the one taking the p**s out of us all.

Most people don't care. They think it's not important, and they refuse to spend a few euro on dealing with the problem. It's the same mindset that refuses to maintain hedgerows on their land which borders the roads, for the common good and which thinks it's fine to fly tip on someone else's land.
The flip is that we have bureaucrats e.g. planners sh***ing on people over window size or door colours on a house, as if such matters were of importance. Rather, focus on the offenders who let noxious weeds take over their land or who do not dispose of such plant material appropriately.
