    Hi guys,

My old Eircom modem is after packing it in today and I'm now looking for a replacement. Am i correct in assuming its not worth going for the one Eircom are offering me for €50 (or free if I renew my 12 month contract)? If so, what ones should i be going for? Living in a medium size semi d at the moment so want one with decent enough range. It will be used for a desktop, 2 laptops a few mobiles and a tablet.

Any help advice greatly appreciated as I'm buying replacement in the morning.

    Regards,

    Lash

I just bought a TP-Link modem and have had no problems so far. It seems to be faster even though the speed hasn't necessarily increased on eircom's end.

To be honest, if they offered you a new modem for free with no strings attached- I still would have declined.

    Hi Liamario,

Is that the TP-Link from powercity or argos? Thinking of replacing my netopia one due to having to re-set every day or so.

Cheers GBCULLEN, seen where SashaJ (who's with VF) got one from powercity, it's a different model from the one available in argos:

Am with eircom myself and just wondering which of the two would be best suited to replace the netopia?

that image in argos is wrong I'd say. are you near argos to go and check, i bet its the same as the one in powercity. for your question there are 2 versions of the modem sacha got. I had a bit of bother with VF so became a bit of an expert on modem/routers, that was how i learnt of this tp version. I ended up with a netgear dgn3000 that i got for 50 euro on ebay, almost brand new, it was a fluke but i am happy.

read this link that explains the difference

and then go here to see the images and you will see the one in argos is wrong.

and its not unusual to have the wrong pic with a product.

    ok

    ok

Thought it might be the wrong picture in Argos as well!

To tap into your knowledge and to help a complete luddite would you recommend the tp-link to replace the eircom netopia or this:
