    Hey,
Relatively new on boards so wasn't sure where the best place to ask this was so reckoned this would be a good place to start. I'm looking to start a reasonably simple social network to establish links between people and allow them to keep track of what they've done with other people in the site. I reckon what was used to created adverts.ie for example would provide suitable functionality for what I'm looking to do. I was just wondering if anyone would have good suggestions for social media software or more specifically does anyone here know what donedeal was made with or is it designed by the owners themselves. I'll note hear that I have programming experience but not web design experience but I'm not looking to create anything too big or complex to begin with. Was considering using BuddyPress for example but again this is just a small idea for the moment,
    Cheers,
    Shaq

You mention social network but list two examples of classifieds. Which are you hoping to build?

Regardless, there are plenty of 'off the shelf' frameworks for both. Ranging from Open Source (Free) to very costly.

If you look around there are plenty more to choose from. Also, CMS's like Joomla and Drupal would have extensions to add this functionality.
