Oh DL be very careful with your back. Maybe go for Physio when the initial bruising or whatever has healed.

No we've no intention of finding out. Thankfully we're both in agreement that we're having a surprise! I work with lots of continentals and they think it's hilarious!

    So how's everyone keeping?
Christmas is just around the corner so it must be exciting for any of you that have children already. Santa is a great man! Ill have to make do with Santa visiting my dog this year, hopefully all going well next year he will have another good boy/ girl in this house :)

Just wondering how many of you are on Facebook? A friend of mine text me this morning to say that a girl we know had a baby & she has photos plastered all over Facebook. I'm not sure I'd like that myself, it's a private thing really & anyone important to me would be getting a photo via text anyway. I just don't like the idea of kids photos on social media sites for all to see.
Is it me being weird or does anyone feel the same about this?

Santa always visits my dog :)
First Christmas for us with A and she's 10 months! No idea what's going on of course but does seem to like the tree!! She's just started crawling so between her and the dog I need eyes in the back of my head!!!

I don't like pics of babies on Facebook. I put up one of my hubbie with her when she was born but she was swaddled and could hardly see her! I haven't put any up since!
Once there on the Internet you have no control of them....

Well I have my big scan Tom!! I'm 20 &1/2 weeks. Dying to find out the sex!!!!! Literally can't wait - feels like Christmas Eve now!! Some hard kicks going on occasionally - baby really seems unimpressed when I yawn!!!
Ill let ye know how I go tomorrow.... I've bet my hubbie 20 quid its a boy.... I'm losing confidence now and have no idea... I was so sure before!! Boy or girl will be amazing for little A :) they'll be best of buds I hope!!

Congrats Johnny31!! Hope all is going well for your gf and she is feeling good!!

I hope everyone got over the xmas and happy new year to all the mammys here!! :-)

Looking for some info!! Anybody suffering with sciatica?? For the last 2 days ive been suffering with what feels like a pinched nerve in my butt cheek. Its near my hip. Its causing me some discomfort but not as much to warrant going to the doctor. If i sit in a certin way it eases it somewhat. It might not be sciatica??? Its not travelling down my leg!!
Anybody suffer the same!? Or what should i do??

I have it and I have a sacroiliac belt which I wear and it eases it. I'd really recommend going to a Physio even for an initial consultation. I went at 5 weeks because that's when it first flared up, he did done massage and recommended the belt. I've been able to manage it myself since.

The problem is it won't just go away especially because you're now pregnant and all your muscles are relaxing and you're getting bigger.

If you have a recurring problem then get referred to the hospital Physio so it's free.

I have an unstable pelvis which leads to the same problem every other week! But last time I did physio every 2 weeks as I also had spd. - this time I'm going to a chiropractor every 2 weeks and finding it much better - he specialises in pregnancy. Because of him I haven't had any spd only mild pains occasionally and once my pelvis slips he can fix the pain straight away - realigns me so the pressure is off the nerve - but I have to use lots of ice on the area too!

    Hi All,

How is everyone doing? Im 24 weeks on Saturday so im glad to be finally getting to the third trimester. Feeling great and so far quite a neat bump! Is anyone else the same? I was convinced i would balloon but all im getting from everyone is that i hardly look pregnant! Even the nurse yesterday taking my bloods told me i was holding it in well ha ha. Im interested to know when things will really pop for me, i imagine probably in the next 3 weeks or so did anyone else experience that?

Id like to ask your opinion on something this is my first so im very much all questions! Just in regards to sleeping at night, i know its important to not sleep on your back as it can stop blood flow to the placenta but i also read that for the same reason you shouldnt sleep on your right side. Leaving only your left side for sleeping on? Is this what you all understand too? Unfortunatley i have been finding sleeping on my right side very comfy but obviously with this new information moved to my left side last night. I woke quite a bit because i was concious i was ending up on my back without knowing and worried about it would love to get your thoughts?

Also in regards to movement im currently feeling pulse like movement which i imagine is little kicks but if i was to put my hand on my tummy that movement doesnt transfer through. When did you guys find you felt proper kicks, is that in the next few weeks or so?

    xx

I will be 23 weeks on Sunday. Cannot believe how quickly the time is flying by! I thought I was small until my gp gave me lecture this morning on how much weight I've gained :( I am up 9kg since I got pregnant. I am so disgusted with myself! It's strange though as I still fit into my normal jeans (with the top button open!!) and everyone keeps telling me how small I am for 5.5months!! Christmas and all the mince pies have me ruined!!

As regards movement I started feeling little movements in the evenings when I would lie on my side since 17 weeks and they have gotten stronger and much more frequent as the weeks go by. They were proper kicks by 19 weeks!! My partner felt the baby kick for the first time on New Year's Day. It was such a great experience. Wasn't expecting to be able to feel the baby move myself until about now as its my first, let alone my partner!

I was really neat with my first - I didn't start to really balloon til 30 weeks! Then at 35 plus I needed help putting on my shoes....!!! This time as there was only 4 months between pregnancies I'm quite bumpy - and have been for several weeks! Think I'll be waddling by 28 weeks!

With the sleep - I try to fall asleep on my left but don't worry at all about it whatever position i wake up in! Just remember this is all new info really - stuff our mams knew nothing about! It's just guidance - nothing to fret over in my opinion!

Kicks - it can be any time around now your OH will be able feel - but changes depending on your weight and the placenta position etc!! In the next couple weeks u should be feeling regular movement!

I wouldn't be too worried about sleeping on your left side, right side or your back. I think as you get bigger the baby will let you know if you need to turn over.

24 weeks here and my belly button is almost flat.

21 weeks and my brain has shut down. I get about half a day's work done before I glaze over. I can't remember this from last time, but then my memory isn't really working either!

So has anyone here put on much baby weight yet?
I ask because since I got pregnant I have lost approx 16 pounds. Morning sickness has lasted all day & unfortunately didn't pass at the twelve week mark. It has improved slightly but my appetite is nowhere near what it should be & I'm still nauseous/ sick.
I assume the baby is taking what he needs from my body fat. Clothes that used to be snug are now very loose & my skin is in an awful state.
The hospital & gp isn't overly concerned because I can keep down fluids so I'm not dehydrated.

I suppose I just want to know has anyone else gone through something similar?

Oh & for anyone suggesting eating little & often I have done that. I also tried the ginger biscuits, dry toast, crackers & everything else that was suggested. Unfortunately nothing has worked :(

I'm butting in here a bit sorry - am due in mid-June. I've lost about 16lbs as well and at 17 weeks my sickness doesn't look like it's going anywhere. I've been in hospital twice to go on drips and midwives and doctors were adamant that weight loss is not the end of the world and that it doesn't damage baby. I'm also trying to but weight on because while I have a bump, clothes are hanging off me on my thighs and shoulders.

In the hospital last week I had ketones in my urine from not eating much, they were a bit concerned about that but like you, it's the fluids they're more concerned about. I've asked a number of times about losing so much weight (and I'm still going) and they didn't see concerned at all - said baby takes everything is needs from you.

My mum had severe morning sickness too and was like a skeleton when pregnant (I've seen a photo) When I was born she only weighed 3lbs over her pre-pregnancy weight. I was 8lbs and very healthy so I'm trying not to worry too much.

Oh and nothing works for me either for the MS and everything has been suggested to me too! :)

Oh thank god I found someone else!
I haven't lost any weight in the last few weeks but up to week 16/17 I was still getting sick & unable to eat on a regular basis.
Yeah I was sent to the hospital too but to be honest no one batted an eyelid. Which I have to say put my mind at ease. It was kind of a "sure some women are just sick all the time you will be grand" attitude & I found they relaxed me by being so cool :)
So I've held my own for the last 3/4 weeks but I haven't gained any weight either. Going by research on the Internet I should have gained approx 19 pounds by now.
But as I said gp isn't overly concerned, consultant is ok about it but I have an appointment with him next week so he might have a different view on it then.
Ketones are up the whole time but bloods look ok & scans show the baby is fine so far.
The boost of energy I was told to expect in the second trimester never happened but I expected that given I was so sick up along.
I suppose if I was putting on too much weight that would bring its own set of problems too.
I'm only starting to sport a small bump & the noticeability of that depends on what I wear.

You sound exactly like me! Bloods and baby are fine, ketones are not but are improving. It is nice to hear people are in a similar situation (even though I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy). I'm still waiting for the burst of energy too -I'm still very weak and lacking in energy, I'm eating and keeping most food down now but still not eating a huge amount so no weight gain. Being so sick is very draining so it sounds like you're like me, feeling a bit fragile. I reckon I won't put that much weight on (famous last words!) unless my appetite picks up dramatically in the next few weeks.

I specifically asked the consultant how much weight loss is too much because I was really worried and he said they don't look at it that way, that they only are concerned with weight loss if it seriously impacts on the health of the baby or the mother.

Fingers crossed it's only up for both of us from now on! :)

How's everyone doing! Can't believe 26 weeks in!!! Getting big now!!! Hosp appt next Friday - starting to get anxious about whether this baby will be breech or not - my last one was and so had to have a section. Still early days for that tho considering my daughter didn't go breech until 37 weeks last time! Little scut was head down til that!!

    Hi Dublin Lady

I'm 26 weeks too and really wish I could press the pause button to enjoy it a little more before I get to the stage of wishing it away once I get too big and uncomfortable. I feel like its all flying by at the moment. I'm really excited! I wouldn't worry too much about breech, at least you know what to expect if you end up with a section.

The only problem I'm having at the moment is I've become so indecisive lately, just cannot make any decisions! Usually I'm great at decision making!!!

Very excited to receive maternity leave dates from work and get MB10 sent off to social welfare last week.

Ohh I must get my MB10 off!!

I'm the same with the lack of decisiveness!!! Total disaster!

The doc said increased risk of breech this time - up from 2% to 10% so it's still 90% chance won't happen! I think I'm more worried about a section because I've already had one and know what to expect! I can't imagine having to recover from that while looking after my newborn and daughter who will then be 14months! However - no point worrying about something that may never happen so ill have to get it out of my head til later!!

I do like this stage of pregnancy although I'm feeling a bit huge already! Have stretchy pains last couple days so must be another little growth spurt!

Loving the kicks and wriggles :)
