Where do people get this now?

Bronteglen and Amazon are gone to expensive for this in the size I need.

Or is their an alternative to put under a dog??

LOL I think we must have been his best customers - remember us all planning on getting some? :D. OP I got 2 pieces last year and he gave me a fiver off so €45 for 2 pieces that are approx 170 x 100 - andreac told me to ask him for a deal so I did lol!! ;) My dog was going to be having an operation a few weeks after pet expo so I wanted it for his crate.. So for about 3 months the 2 pieces lined his crate (one on top of the other) where he lived full time for 6 weeks and part time for another 3 or 4...since then one is folded in half and in his bed and the other lines the boot of my jeep. He's a retriever who likes to swim and get mucky so the one in the car has had a lot of abuse but both pieces are spotless and good as new. Proper vet bed is well worth the investment imo

No, I have 2 cats and we get a lot of things from them. I was ordering some stuff earlier so I had a look for you to see if they stocked it. I've been thinking of getting some for a cat thats been coming in for food. I wanted to have a warm and dry bed for him/her in the shed for the winter, something that would be easy to clean so I was thinking of that stuff until he/she feels safe enough to come into the house and brave our other 2.

You're mixing me up with OP:D, his/here name isin't near as good as mine...lol, 22mm pile (thickness) at Zooplus and 30mm on this one at Amazon, use to be better value alright, what pile is it at these Pet Shows or Brontelen does anyone know? Not on their site.

Wonder would 8mm be noticeable? Bigger dog may notice.

Just checking out the bronte glen site, prices don't look too bad there..what size do you need? If you check out their facebook page or contact them directly they'll be able to tell you what shows they will be at next. Although I think most shows are winding down now but you never know.

Maxi zoo sell the vet bed on the roll, not any cheaper though. I got all the vet bed I have now from pet expo shows it's the cheapest option if you can get them somewhere like that but tbh it's good value even from the website since it lasts a dogs lifetime.

If you can get to a dog show they are much cheaper there.

You can get a good size one for less than 20euro for a sheet. I usually cut them in half and they are still huge.

That's alot. Up to a couple of years a woman in Longford was running Bronte Glen in Ireland. I got a roll of vet bed off them and they only charged €5 for delivery to anywhere in the country. Pity they are gone now.

I guess like with a lot of buisnesses they've had to cut back but maxi zoo do the vet bed by the meter so you can get any size you like. I did find them dearer though but maybe take a trip there, work out how much it would be and then see if it's dearer or cheaper to buy online.
..I think some vets sell vet bed as well and regular pet shops do too.

Metre is €36, way more expensive in there for less.

I wanted to do that but I went to 2 of the Munster Circuit shows and they weren't there! Was so annoyed because I was Bangor & North Down All Breed Ch Show and wanted to green and white one but I didn't have any cash on me. We are going to the Irish Kennel Club Int. Show and the Irish Kennel Club Nat Show and the 22/23 of Sept and I really hope they have them there.

Even if you don't show dogs, I would still say to go. You can get a lot of stuff cheaper at the shows. And they are going to be big enough shows so they should have a bit of variety.

Got two sheets of it from zooplus.ie quite a while ago.

It's a little expensive but it's fantastic stuff. No matter what he does, he doesn't seem to be able to do any damage to it and remains as soft as day one.

Is a single sheet of vet bed comfy enough as a bed for a lab? We have gone through a few big comfy beds from Maxi Zoo and he has just destroyed his latest one so we're wondering what's the best bed to get him

You can fold it over to make it more comfy. The IKC dog expo is on paddys day so if you hold out until then you could go along and get a bargain ;) It'd be good socialisation for the pup too

Would it have to be folded over to make it comfy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,132 ✭✭✭Sigma Force

You don't need to fold it to make it comfy, there's different types as well..think the one for older dogs might be thicker. It can be laid directly on to concrete (not that I would but that's what I read years ago when looking for bedding). Maxi Zoo still sell it in various colours. I tend to put a towel, fleece then vet bed down just for extra comfort but vet bed on it's own is fine. Dogs love it.

No you don't need to. I fold some of it because it's huge but I have a single long piece in front of the fireplace (we don't use the fire) and both dogs love to stretch out on it.

I got it really cheap at a cat show, i think it was €15 for a very large piece. Usually if you see a deal like that you jump at it. I would have bought more but it was all the money i had left in my pocket and no cash Machine.

You'll always get it at cat and dogs shows, and a lot cheaper than you would in a shop. We have so much vet bed here, about 10 sheets! We just bought a few big ones and cut them up to fit the cats bed/crate and show crates. It's so handy to have a few so you have replacement ones when one goes in the wash!

I asked the same question a few weeks ago! I bought the vet bed from dog food direct http://www.dogfooddirect.ie/modules/shop/products/profleece-ultimate-1000mm-x-750mm/
I got it in charcoal even though my labs are yellow as colours were limited. It is a great colour for the mucky weather we have been having :) I bought 3 pieces and they are prefect for a lab! In fact two of mine sometimes lie on the same one! I have it just on floor in sitting room and it is so cosy (I have lay down on it myself!).

Great, thanks everyone. I'll get some! The charcoal colour sounds perfect for this weather :)

Had a look at the site, but can't see how I order a particular colour - even charcoal! :)

Amazon are selling Bronte Glen vet bedding in different sizes and colours. I always found Bronte Glen vet bedding to be really good.

With Amazon at the moment you get an additional 15% discount with this code: 'PETSWS15'. Also spending over £25 with Amazon gives you free delivery. These Amazon prices work out cheaper compared to Bronte Glen's website.
