    Hi,
Just wondering say you have really good insulation in an attic conversion and decide to get 8 LED lights inthe ceiling. Surely, when they are being put they will have to cut a little into the insulation to fix them.
Would this affect your BER rating?

    Thanks.

Hi there. There are covers available that do exactly what you are trying to guard against. Without using them you will possibly affect your BER. If you want to know more drop me a PM and I might be able to help you.

The leds will have a small effect on the BER result. The cutouts in the insulation are not measured during a BER survey, unless they account for a substantial percentage of the overall area. The cutouts would affect an airtightness test so in this case the covers would be beneficial. If you are planning to have a BER survey carried out it is better to make any changes before the survey. If you already have a BER completed and this is the only change you are considering, the change to the BER rating may not justify having a survey redone.

You also need to pay particular attention to your airtightness detailing around the cutouts. Significant leakage around fittings if this not done correctly.
