And thankfully we have a third chance to at least delay X being introduced via the Dail vote in the coming months.

You seem surprised that we're doing our best to have it rejected. A tad naive of you I think...

I'm surprised that you're proud of trying to delay live saving abortions and democratic process. It's despicable.

This report in today's Sunday Independent, if true and correct in all details, show's how out of touch and/or insensitive to the care of women some of our politicians can be/truly are.

A MAJOR Fine Gael split on abortion is likely to accelerate after the announcement by Health Minister James Reilly that he will bring a memo to Cabinet on abortion legislation next week.

In a sign of ongoing tensions, the Sunday Independent has learnt that Fine Gael senator Fidelma Healy Eames has sent a letter to all Fine Gael TDs and senators warning that "a free vote is critical on matters of conscience".

Ms Healy Eames told her colleagues: "We have one of the safest countries in the world in which to have a baby and no doctor at the hearings ever withheld, or knew of any doctor to ever withhold, or refuse, medical treatment to a woman in difficulty in pregnancy in Ireland."

Did you miss the word 'intentionally'..?

An important mistake on your part I'd suggest. I'm assuming it was a mistake and not deliberate..?

In Savita's case for one, there was no hope of her unborn child surviving yet she was left to die.

I think the fact you mention that word "intentionally" means that you have little compassion for any woman who needs lifesaving treatment that will have the side effect of killing her much wanted baby - but without which, both would die. Can you not even imagine for a second what that must feel like? And then to have a pack of ignoramuses going on about protecting life from being killed intentionally

She shouldn't be a legislator if she is bringing personal opinion into the matter.

I'm sure FG will organise a whip round for her ;)

I don't think it's naive to be surprised someone is spending so much time and energy on what is a futile matter

The futility is yet to be shown...:)

    This makes no sense. :)

Termination of pregnancies are carried out in Irish hospitals to save maternal life already. Sadly many of these procedures result in the unintentional death f the baby...

X will change this situation fundamentally and thats why we are doing our best to have it rejected in the Dail...

She deserves free rail travel for life if she can influence her FG colleagues to reject X...;)

    Abortion certainly terminates pregnancies.

    Intent is what counts though...:)

I wonder if P.W. Botha thought the same about the ani-Apartheid movement...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭Lingua Franca

Wow. Comparing the pro life movement and what you want to do to women to the anti apartheid movement is surely hitting a new low.

Would you mind explaining how you think X will change anything fundamentally? As far as I can see the X case legislation will make no difference at all in practical terms.

    New low?

Intentionally killing unborn babies. Now thats low...

That's quite amusing considering that you want to ignore the democratic process, essentially not recognising the validity of voting and supreme court judgements. Much like the Apartheid folk decided to ignore the democratic rights of a group of people. Your political leanings on this thread would put closer to them rather than the anti-Apartheid folk.

If you can read this, you're too close!

    Very simple.

The thin end of the wedge whereby a claim of suicide will be considered in allowing an unborn baby to be exterminated.

Once that rubicon is crossed the fllodgates will open...

Ah sure some of them survive, don't they?

And not one mention of the Right to life of unborn babies.

A recurring theme in this thread from our Atheist friends..:(

Babies aren't killed. Pregnancy that, for example, threatens the life of a suicidal 14 year old rape victim, will be terminated.

How many babies have survived a visit to a Marie Stopes Clinic..?
