Put a call in to cancel both tv and broadband got the usual small offers to try stay but went through with cancellation

Got email today offering 50% Off tv for 12 months only which is good

anyone ever get broadband offer separately through email? would like to keep both together

Was paying 53 for both till last month and was up to 109 from next month

  • Registered Users Posts: 501 ✭✭✭DubLad69

Just cancelled my TV. Hoping for the usual email with a better offer. Do they usually give an even better offer if you wait for the services to actually be turned off?

My broadband isn’t with Sky, so thinking it could be worth trying.

  • Registered Users Posts: 498 ✭✭Pinkman

How long after cancelling did you get the 50% off email? I'd like to try cancelling and waiting on an offer before the 30 days but don't want to lose all my recordings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭webpal

I tried it before and didn’t lose recordings. I was away from sky for a few months

My bill was due to be 191. BB, Signature, HD, Multiroom, Sports, Movie (No TNT sports) - previously 129.50

My BB was out of contract so price had gone full (500mb) so they offered me 500mb for 45pm. I said no I can get 1GB for that. So I moved it to Vodafone, the next week. Told them to cancel Sports and Movies (was fed up with ringing up, cancelling, then having to ring back up and get the half price deal again for 6 months dance) and told them cancel HD and Ultimate.

Checked my account and they had cancelled everything except Ultimate and then added in new Ultimate charges and a Netflix upgrade to Standard fee too (none of which I asked for). It was 94.50 with these. Rang to cancel those to minimise deal until my contract expires in October, he offered me I think 5 off my Signature and 7 off multiroom (how the hell is that 20 euro for goodness sake).

So now I've taken my 191 down to 49 + 20 for Signature and Multiroom. He asked if he could keep me. I said well 3 months ago I was paying 129.50 for broadband and TV with all sports and movies. I'm now not paying sky for broadband which for TV only I had been essentially paying 94 euro with my discounts (Signature, HD, Multiroom, Sports, Movies). Now I'm paying 94.50 for Signature and Multiroom and Ultimate.

So now cancelling Ultimate I'm down to 69 for the remainder of contract just with basic channels. I told them that I would do a deal for TV, Sports, Movies, HD, Ultimate, if they would tie the discounts for 12 months and not 6 months as I am tied to a contract where all the elements I want increase exponentially half way through a deal.

They said they can't do that. I pointed out that Sky Stream offers exactly that. Discounts on the elements of a package that last the duration of the contract. So I reckon at this point for simplicity of contract I'll switch to stream. It's not the ideal service, i'd prefer to stay on Q but I think price wise it's right where you need it.

I left sky tv a long time ago and just have them for broadband at the moment. They keep ringing at least once or twice a week. I told them I’ll do a deal where I’ll pay it all on the broadband and tv is free but they say no. So instead of 30 on bb and 25 on tv I say I’ll do bb for 55 and tv for 0 as I can claim the bb fee.
I guess their numbers are down overall

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,337 ✭✭✭CoBo55

Is their BB any good? Have you got ftth with them? My contract with VM is coming to an end and I'm thinking of going ftth now that it's finally available, it's just so difficult to pick a provider.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

Was out for 2 days once but that was due to some idiot destroying the cable and took out a lot of Kildare but it’s through Siro lines. Apart from that I’ve no issues

  • Registered Users Posts: 498 ✭✭Pinkman

Anyone else getting offered Multiroom free for 12 months? I rang them to try to get it and they claimed the only offer available is free for 2 months and €10 a month after that but I don't see any mention of 2 months free. It seems to imply it's free for the 12 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,321 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Its free for 2 months only but only if you agree to keep it for 12 months. So 2 months free and then 10 months at €20 a month.

Got email about 5 days after cancellation

I didnt take them up on it

wife wants to hold out in hope they will reduce broadband also,i don't think we will hear from them again, and when we get cut off on the 20th it will be my fault 😕

12 month €60p/m tv and 1gb broadband deal is up in a couple of weeks, going up to €127 after that. Rang sky to cancel because I'm doing the annual switch from Sky<>Virgin. They go through a script where they try to get you stay, a bit tiresome really. Said I was only interested in staying if they can do 60 p/m for another year, after a few different offers they said best they can do is €86. I said no worries go ahead and cancel. Call took 20 minutes of back and forth with me repeatedly asking to just go ahead and cancel please.

Interestingly when I cancelled with Virgin to switch to Sky last year they gave me a spiel about how Sky's broadband isn't as good and reliable as theirs. This time Sky were arguing the exact same thing 😅. Also the guy was claiming I'll have to pay Virgin for the installation and the box with which I'm pretty sure is not true. Even if it is I'll have made that money back in a few months vs if I had stayed with Sky.

what did you end up doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,037 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

Just cancelled, I knew they wouldn't match the new customer offer from Virgin just like last year Virgin wouldn't match the new customer offer I got from Sky. I think they don't because they know a lot of customers don't want the hassle of having to switch providers. In my experience Sky and Virgin offer more or less the same experience for TV and Broadband these days so I don't mind jumping through the hoops to save a few hundred euro every year

What's the best price people have been offered for Sky stream? I signed up for BB with them recently, today they offered me stream for €20 a month or €30 including Netflix for 12 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,337 ✭✭✭CoBo55

That's a brilliant deal, did you let it switch off and then they rang you?

Cancelled a month ago , alas no call … Box has arrived today to send equipment back , I'm a wee bit sad to see it go !

Do you think they might offer me a deal if I call ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,337 ✭✭✭CoBo55

No harm in giving it a try, they seem to be playing hard ball lately, but, there's no harm in asking is there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,321 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Dont know what it's like these days but a few years ago if you rang in after being cut off you were regarded as a returning customer and had offers available that weren't there before cut off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,288 ✭✭✭fatherted1969

Package gone to 210 this month, I'll be cancelling this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,337 ✭✭✭CoBo55

😱😱 What in god's name are you getting to amount to 210 blips???

All movies, all sports, tv/broadband and 1 multi roomsubscription. It was 155 for the last good while, I must have dropped out of contract

Rang them yesterday to play the game for the parents Stream subscription which is ending this month, managed to get the new customer offer for it last year when they moved house despite being an exciting customer. This may have black marked the account as I got offered a measly €5 discount and no follow up offer just straight up cancel. Also disappointing to see they have outsourced their call centre to India

so this is why Sky Sports keeps increasing their prices every year to show the same programme on 3 channels 😒

You must be using a dodgy box, nice looking EPG in fairness, some look terrible.

You changed the colour? Oh, just twigged it's your favourites area which would account for the low numbers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 333 ✭✭cathy427

Has anyone gotten the sky essentials ("lite") offer recently or have they dropped that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭tomfoolery60

They gave me nothing and I've sent the box back. Some nonsense about offers not being available so I should ring back later but I told them to cancel. They never called or sent me an offer, should have done this a year ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,337 ✭✭✭CoBo55

I don't think they call anymore. Had you rang back when you still had the box but the service had finished they'd have made you an offer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 333 ✭✭cathy427

My discounted offer ends in a few weeks and I have missed two calls from them in last few days - be interesting to see if its an offer to sign up for another year at a discount or just offering a deal on sports/movies.

I am still on hd+ so they might be pushing the sky q.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,337 ✭✭✭CoBo55

The calls are only to push sports, they weren't interested in discussing anything else. I'm definitely detecting a hardening of attitude in Sky they don't seem to be as willing to haggle. I'd say they'll try and push that sky stream on to you instead of Q

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭tomfoolery60

The agent said he would call me the next day but didn't. I've a mate paying a tenner or something like that (don't know full details). Doesn't sound like that offer is available to anyone these days?

They were offering me like nearly 40 quid a month for normal sky Q no sports hd or anything. I would certainly have stayed for a tenner because Freesat is an investment.

I used to watch a lot of sky Atlantic but not in well over a year, probably one or two shows the last year. Best value thing I got from my subscription was a few months free Apple TV+. Glad to be rid of them!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭jelutong

I'm with Sky almost 24 years. Currently paying €44 pm for Entertainment package. Contract coming to an end next month. Rang to cancel. Got an offer of €26.40 pm for 12 months which I took.
