Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i agree, complete rubbish, if that was the case the tv inspectors would have a contact name for an address as opposed to addressing it to the occupier ect, i know someone that has never had a tv licence at their address in 15 years from when the house was first built , they have sky
licence is a waste of money but cant be avoided for most people

I know slightly off topic but relevant here for some who may have had their Sky disconnected but is C4/E4/More4 not available FTA through a Sky+HD box ? I've been cut off since last week and have tried removing my skycard and unplugging the sky box and still nothing ?? I have an older skybox as fta in a bedroom without any card and this has BBC as channel 101 and Ch4/E4/More4 ans so on, I thought when I removed my skycard from the newer +HD box the same would occur ?? Are the newer boxes different ??

If you are using tour sky box as a fta box you need to scan those channels in other channels or acquire a uk freesat from sky card which will have those channels on the main epg.

IIRC you should just need to disconnect the box from the mains for 30 seconds or so, reconnect the power and then power it back on without the card inserted.

Doesn't work on the new ones
Last sky installer said all the new boxes are worthless without a subscription, I have a few older boxes under the stairs for back up

Ah the bastids, I might have to move my old Sky+ box back downstairs after tomorrow so.

It seems this is the case indeed, not totally worthless but certainly a lot less useful.

    FYI
The free Broadband for 6 months = €10 off per month for 6 months

In the small print they hit you for the 'line rental' @ €30 per month

After getting disconnected last week through cancellation request, I decided to call and see what they would offer me to return, fella said he'd have a look, he said he could offer me 50% off for 9 months so I took Sports & Movies as well :D

Simple really but I do think alot of it may depend on who you speak with

I got dissconnected three weeks ago and havent had a call yet its not looking likely at this stage.

Just call them up yourself. The offer is more than likely just waiting there for you.

I didn't even wait a week, the fact the new skybox is as limited as it is was probably the push I needed, that and the fact the wife was sick of switching between the saorview box and sat box !

Ring up and say your wife took a call from Sky but wasn't able to give them anytime and you're wondering what it was about ....... see where that leads ;)

Just a quick word of thanks to the many on this thread who basically said 'Play hard ball'
    I did. It worked.
Phoned up about 2/3 weeks ago. Threatened to cancel. Our last deal was running out. (Which was basic plus HD half price) and I wanted a new deal. No joy from the Sky rep. Therefore I said go ahead and cancel.
Missed a few phone calls from them and they eventually caught me today.
I now have basic plus Sport plus HD half price for 6 months. No contract.

    Thanks again.

Can you put a new sky card into an old sky plus hd box which has recordings from a previous card and will these recordings be available with the new card?

At a minimum they will offer you 20% off but if you cancel you will definitly get a better deal. It might taken more than a month though to get the call.

Took the plunge today and gave notice to cancel.

    Regular bill is €76

Offered €20 discount for 9 months.

Decided to hang tough and see if I get a better offer. Eircom bundle is a realistic option so if Sky don't play ball I'll be moving!

It would be helpful if you said what you had before. Your post is very vague.

Okay so you didnt have sports before but did you have the variety pack, HD, multiroom, movies??????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭Vego

ok to clear it up ....I had a sky hd box (but no hd channels) the variety pack and movies no multi and no sports

I now have sky with hd channels, 1 multi room hd box , movies , variety , all sky sports for the same price I was paying

    decent deal ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,321 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Hang tight, my mother got a deal when she cancelled straight away. She couldn't get over that they were willing to offer her half price and couldn't do it when she cancelled.

I cancelled after being with them for almost 7 years and having being paying 50% for the last 9 Months.

They wouldnt match the 50% deal I was on so I spat the dummy and cancelled.

They havent called yet, am I looking at a Skyless future? Should I be strong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,635 ✭✭✭donegal.

Right so i need some advice please. I have been a full package holder with sky for the last 18 years. I have a multiroom box also a broadband subscription with them too. My tv package is out of contract but my bb is under contract till 11th Nov.

I currently pay around €160 per month for all this. I rang on thurs and said for such a longterm customer they should be trying to offer me something for my length of loyalty. I was offered €27 off my monthly bill which i think is a very poor offer. I said id think about it.

I rang again today to give a months notice of cancellation. I was offered €21 off which i refused again. Then i was put on hold while the agent spoke to his "manager" and was offered €27 again. I refused and confirmed my months notice of cancellation. The sky agent said i wouldn't be rung about any offers within the month and i said fair enough.

Do they ring back does anyone know or is he bluffing also where do i see offers on my account. I see some people here saying offers of 50% were applied to their account and where would i check.

    Cheers

Well, in my case I cancelled last October. I have got offers every 2nd month. Just yesterday I got their latest offer through the letterbox offering 50% off for 9 months. Thats a step-down from their earlier missives which offered50% off for 12 months.
