Was going to ring up Sky in the next day or two to try and get a deal and said I'd check here... so thanks for the heads-up on the GrabOne deal!

EDIT: Yeah - using the website seems to remove the offer once you remove Sky Sports and / or Sky Movies from your cart. So will I have to take them on and then cancel?

Don't need Movies or Sports - so if I can get the Variety for €19 a month for 12 months - I'll be happy!

EDIT 2: Yeah, from reading the other thread.. it doesn't look like it - was just gonna take on Original Package for a year:

    (€16 * 6) + (€29 * 6) - €30 = €240
(Half Price + Full Price - CashBack)

But with the offer, it'd be, the Variety + HD + Movies (which I'm unsure I'll watch too often) for a year:

    (€28 * 12) = €336
    (Monthly)

So almost an extra hundred euro for the year for Variety + HD + Movies.. it's probably worth it but.. just about!

EDIT 3: Actually, the GrabOne voucher code includes the €30 cashback offer as well:

    7FjDh2.png

So an extra €5.50 a month for Variety Mix, HD + Movies. Yeah, I can live with that!

Anyone know if you can add multiscreen to this deal?

You can add multi screen to any deal at any time but you probably wont get any form of an offer or discount on it. Then again if you don't ask you wont get :)

Due to be disconnected on Saturday so gave it one last push today to see if I could get another deal as previous offers were too expensive. Currently paying €19 for the Variety Package. Got offered it for €19 for 9 months (which is half price) and full price of €38 for the last 3 months of a new 12 month contract. At the end of 9 months I can downgrade to the original package and pay €29 which is what I'll do. Hopefully in a year's time there will be another special offer! Happy enough with that. I don't mind going down the free to air route but not being able to record was a big turn-off :o

Keep at them. This is about my 3rd time to ring looking for a deal!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,635 ✭✭✭donegal.

afaik you can record and pause live tv etc, on all of the free-to-air options except using your sky box.

usually only one channel at a time though

Sky cut me loose about six weeks ago. Have been surviving on free to air and Netflix since then. My thoughts being that there is only 24 hours in the day and only so much TV you can watch. I was happy enough......then I got a letter from SKY this morning offering me half price TV on all bundles for 12 months, more or less begging me to come back. Am tempted but am surviving none the less. Anyone think I should take up the offer?

I cancelled my Sky and signed up in the wife's name using the groupon deal. They wouldn't offer the half price deal in my name so they seem more concerned with new customers than retaining old ones.

Very easy self install of the viewing card using the "quick fix" section of the sky website with my previous box. Switched over my Setanta subscription too with an easy email. Happy days.

It's going to get to a stage where after two years we're going to need to swap out our wives too :-P

My brother was just saying to me there was Sky require an active phone line in order to avail of their service.

I know phone line is required for box office orders (etc) - but just have eFibre in house with no phone.

Any truth in this? They can probably activate it without phone line, right?

    Nope

Why is it coming up €28 per month, normally €81, when i select Variety, HD and Movies, but if i swap Movies for Sports, it comes up now €51, normally €89?

Neither of these offers are 50% off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,585 ✭✭✭jca

    Nope

No need for a phone line with a single box setup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 341 ✭✭vicadd

    Pricing didn't seem that clear to me, but just worked it out. For anyone else as slow as me;
You must take Variety 19 plus HD 5,
Plus Sports 18 OR Movies 14

So monthly total is 38 with Movies, 42 with Sports or 56 with Sports and Movies

Has anyone got this deal and added Multi-room - is it a straight 15 euro extra per month. Do you get free HD box and installation on this also?

Also, see no mention of phone line in terms and conditions for multi-room, so maybe that requirement is gone?
    The only thing it says now is;
" If you have home broadband, your Internet enabled
Sky boxes must be connected to your router if we've provided the equipment
you need to connect (e.g. an On Demand connector). "

If you have an iPad then you can get Sky Sports 1234 and 5,F1,Sky Sports news and Sky news for the sum of €12.99 per month or £9.99 if you are in the UK,I'm not sure if this also applies to android devices.

Belter.. just ordered the GrabOne deal for Variety + Movies + HD so presuming the €100 cashback:

    (€28 x 12) - €100 = €236 (€19.66 / month)

So under €20 a month for that.. couldn't say no!

EDIT: Yeah, so the €28 is only for the first month as it deducts your €10 one off payment:

    (€28 x 1) + (€38 x 11) - €100 = €346 (€28.83 / month)

Still happy with that to be honest.

The offer is available on groupon, not grabone I believe.

I don't get where yee are getting 28EUR/month? It's 38 EUR a month except for the first month. Or am I missing something?

"A one off Advance Fee of €10 will be deducted from your initial order and will be credited back on your first two months bill."

"The ongoing cost for the duration of this offer will be from €38 to €56 a month. Subscription fees apply"

    Yep, sorry about that.

It's €10 up front and then appears to be €28 a month.

Sky seem to make it particularly difficult to work out your monthly costs. You gotta read all the small print.

I still expect to cancel the Movies after the first month and keep the discount. As per the rep on the Sky Ireland forum. I ordered the same day as the original poster after reading that it was possible to cancel and keep the discount. SKY subsequently changed their stance though.

Ah yeah, the €10 is potentially the deduction of the one-off cost for the first bill - so yeah, would be €38 a month. Ah, still happy with it when the €100 cashback is factored in.

I was chatting to them on their live chat because the deal doesnt seem to be working correctly. Its coming in too cheap with movies and too dear with Sports. He told me there is an issue online with the coupon and you need to talk to someone on the phone

Hey Guy's I'm out of contract with Sky.

How do I go about getting the above deal :) Ring cancel my current 30 day running contract and buy this deal and order it ?

It is coming out bang on for me.
    Normally 38 Variety + 15 HD + 28 Movies

    With offer it's 19 + 5 + 14 = 38/month.

    * Variety and Movies half price, HD is 5 EUR.

10 EUR upfront but taken off first bill, meaning 28 for first month and 38 for each subsequent month. The 9 EUR is also returned after two bills.

    Yeah, seems correct to me.

The e-mail confirmation I have included above indicating a monthly cost of €28 is very misleading if it is indeed only €28 for the first month to rectify the one-off payment, then bumped up to €38.

when i use it for sports it comes to 51euro per months at checkout:confused:

To be honest, I'm thinking of cancelling this under cooling-off period.

Just taking on the basic deal with the cashback at the minute works out at just over €14 a month. I'm paying twice this by taking on this deal for Variety + Movies + HD - I've Netflix, don't need this.

got the same letter this morning myself having been cut off since end of April.

6 weeks without sky.... not really missed much as have free access to Netflix & Sky Go (with sports & movies) through family members accounts, but in fairness we haven't watched to much of them a lot less than if we had them at our fingertips on the Sky box

There is an infinite amount of free channels on the Sky Box, and the EPG is great since I stuck in a UK card. No more "other channels" all the ITV's +1's Channel 4's & 5's, lots of crap, but some half decent stuff still there.

Have a Saorview receiver built into the TV for the Irish stations.

Miss not having record, pause, rewind etc functions.

Brighter evenings does means getting out a little more, though not very easy with young kids, but have definitely found I'm watching less TV... can only be a good thing.

Am tempted to go again with the half price offer, but really I will gain nothing from it except ease of access and the pause & record features.

Also looking at the Groupon deal. It is a better option as you get the €100 cash back and HD is €5 per month instead of half price €15 €7.50. My problem with that though might be our account is in both names so we might not be able to get it as new customers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

    Use your middle name?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,036 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, this is getting silly now..

Also put this in Sky forum:
Just rang up to cancel and was informed by a member of the Cancellations department that the offer also applies to the Original Mix.

When I informed him that the GroupOn seems to only indicate Variety Mix, I was told that he "has worked there for 3 years and he knows the deals they have on offer".

So either Sky or GroupOn is wrong here:

    5vKrEn.png

Details and fine print around too is too sketchy so just cancelled regardless.

Get yourself a freesat+ box. I got one in 2009, paid about 300 for it (which is a lot) but its still going strong after 6 years and I have full "sky+" type of recording on all the free to air british channels so miss very little

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭gypsylee

So I was charged €117 this month. Going to ring tomorrow and try and get a deal. If I do cancel and I am not offered any good deals can I just ring before the 30 days are up and say I want to stay with them? I will be shot here if Sky disappears from the screens!

how good is the epg ? The one thing that keeps me with Sky is just how good the epg is. It's ease of use, search functionality, etc, etc seems to be streets ahead of anything in the freesat market.

Happy to be proven wrong though ? :)

FYI - Amy on the Sky forum just confirmed to me that people who took advantage of the Groupon offer are not eligible for the €100 cashback.
I can confirm that if you were to sign up for Sky using a Groupon discount code you would not be eligable for a €100 cheque. This would be a seperate offer which is available online. You cannot stack these offers together so you would need to chose either the online offer or the Groupon offer.

    From here!
