hello, I have a level 8 degree in Business/marketing.I am thinking about becoming secondary school teaching and doing the relevant course. I have a question, stupid as it may sound and apologies in advance. Can I choose the subjects I want to study in the post grad or is this dictated by my degree e.g. business, economics, accounting etc. or can I just apply for a college, do the mandatory subjects and do the other subjects I want to specialise in. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.:)

It is dictated by the degree you have. See the teaching council website for whether your degree is recognised to teach a subject in Secondary schools. There is a list of degrees and what subjects you can teach based on your degree.

Sounds like you could teach buisness studies definatly, (Junior and LC) accounting possibly and economics possibly.

Check the TC website for more details

It's possible (though unlikely I imagine) that you might be able to teach maths too, depending on how much maths there was in your degree. You could probably do the maths teaching methodology as part of the PGDE but the TC won't recognise it unless you have enough maths in your degree.
