    I'll start from the start

my car is up for renewal now in september 8th, but i am changin vehicle and giving my girlfriend the car i have now.

I got a quote there yesterday on an integra type r, 96 off someone in there and that was fine i said yes thanks i will call back tomorro to confirm. I was delighted because i am 22 and i couldnt get a quote anywhere else. and it was only going from 450 to 1350 fully comp with full no claims protection. happy as larry anyway i go out and i buy the car.

so i call back today and get a different chap who tells me they cannot offer a quote on this vehicle and that it probably wont even give me one because its a jap import. anyway i give him all the detaills and he actually does get a quote but then runs off to his supervisor, then he comes back and give me the shpeal and that it is a car the company do not insure under any circumstances and therers nothing they can do they are sorry for the misunderstanding....

so now i am in a position that I have a car i cannot get insured on by my insurance company and Theres nothing I can do with it. i kicked up a fuss with 123 anyway and the superviser came on and said he was sorry and the usual " unfortunately unfortunately unfortunately unfortunately" theres nothing they can do because they do not insure the car....

Do I have any rights here?

i have requested the calls to go to the ombudsman or whoever but i dont know what im going to do?!

Get a broker. As you're under 25, then it would be difficult if not impossible to get an online quote for that type of car. Most insurers won't touch it with a barge pole for obvious reasons.

But there are insurers out there who specialise in insuring young drivers. Broker will know about these and will be able to get you a decent quote.

its not the fact of the car, i can put it in my mams name and insure another car or something its the fact they said they will insure me no problem, give me the renewal cost, and then go and say the next day theyre not doing it anymore. i thought if i buy a new car my insurer has to cover me on it... is this not the case?

No. The insurer has the right to decline or cancel at any time.

Did you ask for reference number when you got the quote ?

The other poster who said an insurer can decline a quote is correct, but you could contact the Irish Insurance Federation , who will get you a quote.I think you may have had to have been refused by three insurers first.

Seeing as you got reference number and a quote it might be worth contacting the Ombudsman too.

However something to be aware of , is that if you force this issue you will get quotes but they will be very high.

you see its not even a quote like, its a renewal and a change of vehicle with someone i am already insured with. so they are already my insureres like i just wanted to change my car

It's not fair, I know. But the insurer has the right to decline or cancel at any time. They do not have to give a reason.

I think they do have to give a reason, but its the car and your age OP , and a muppet who gave you a quote in the first instant.

they did however only offer me thirdparty cover with no fire and theft so there was a slight compromise.
