Yeah I was....and you're right, it is unreliable....one minute it was saying he was 2nd at halfway, then he supposedly hadn't even started, other athletes' names were dropping off the page and re-appearing again....then all of a sudden the official results were in and he was 5th :D
Gutted for Colin....he's had a hard couple of months in competition from what I gather from following his twitter feed. How do you rate his chances in the road race Beasty? A medal is less likely in that event is it not but you never know?
I think the issue is that the Irish cyclists have to peak for other events such as the World Championships just to secure some funding (albeit not particularly much). Some of the other teams (GB in particular) are focussed almost exclusively on the Olympic cycle (excuse the pun). Add to that the fact they have just cut more from their £12m or so Budget (over the 4 year cycle) than Ireland actually spends on its Paralympic cyclists, and it's always going to be an uphill struggle

Colin is a TT/Pursuit specialist, and hence I would not place too much hope on him in the Road Race - some of the other guys may have a better chance, particularly Cathal who has a lot of road race experience (I've raced against him in some of the local vets races). Unfortunately I think Enda is still suffering from his accident a few weeks back (he was really struggling even to get off the bike at the track events last week). Add to that the fact that the 3 guys will be racing against some people who are less than half their age. Having said all that, the road races are far less predictable than the track or TTs and anything is possible

I certainly fancy Mark Rohan in this afternoon's TT and would not be surprised to see him pick up medals for that and the road race

Have we got many Gold medal hopes do we still realistically have? As in decent chances.

    Bar Smyth of course.:)

The official website is completely messing up the timing, but I believe Mark Rohan is just under 19s up on the 2nd placed rider at the half-way stage in the H1 Hand Cycling

Great to see us with a 'Gold Heavy' Medal total again. :D

Great result for Mark. As Beasty said, the official timing page was completely messed up which made it very difficult to follow that race. But it is another Gold, that's all that matters!

13 medals, 6 gold, 14th place in the medals table....this is utterly ridiculous in the best way possible. I say this too often but I am totally in awe of this team. Completely inspired by what I'm seeing.

Another good story in the Hand Cycling was a Gold Medal for former Grand Prix driver Alex Zanardi who lost both legs in an accident in 2001.

He won Gold in the H4 Time Trial at Brands Hatch - where he had previously competed in Motorsport

And pleased fo Alex Zanardi too. I remember being so upset for him when he had his accident. It was a miracle he survived.

As someone who has just jumped on the bandwagon ..But you just cannot help but get caught up in this fantastic display by the irish team ,they are just phenomenal..

    But my question is..

Does anyone know if there are any plans in place for a homecoming party etc because if ever an Irish team deserved a street packing/ open top bus /street party homecoming..... it's these athletes..

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.....

Missed it earlier on so going to check out RTE's highlights programme that is on at 11.45 tonight, that is some joke these athletes are doing our country proud, but our national broadcaster still couldn't put this programme on at a peak viewing time, cancel Primetime for two weeks and put the highlight show on after the news.

Medal Watch.... Tomorrow is a relatively quiet day for the Irish in terms of medal chances but having said that there are chances for silverware.

The best chance arguably will come in the form of newly crowned Paralympic champion Bethany Firth when she goes in the Women's SB14 100m Breaststroke. She is ranked 3rd fastest of the field in terms of entry times and given how she reached a new level of performance to claim gold in the 100m Backstroke, her chance of getting on the podium again looks quite good.

Keep an eye out for the progress of our road race riders tomorrow. It's probably fair to say that a medal is not expected of them but they are capable of pulling something off in the right scenario.

Ireland are currently in 16th place in the medals table.

Maybe it's been mentioned already but in Beijing in 2008 we finished 36th on the medal table, with 3 gold 1 Silver and 1 Bronze http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Summer_Paralympics_medal_table

This year the sky seems to be the limit !!!!!! They've already got more Golds this year then medals in Beijing :)
