13 medals, 6 gold, 14th place in the medals table....this is utterly ridiculous in the best way possible. I say this too often but I am totally in awe of this team. Completely inspired by what I'm seeing.

    Inspired is the word...:)

I don't often mention this but I'm CP myself, a very mild form of it in comparison to others. But I do have a slight weakness down my right side.

I'm so proud of all the Paralympians...:)

Another good story in the Hand Cycling was a Gold Medal for former Grand Prix driver Alex Zanardi who lost both legs in an accident in 2001.

He won Gold in the H4 Time Trial at Brands Hatch - where he had previously competed in Motorsport

Bethany Firth didn't start today in her heat for the Breaststroke 100m

Bethany Firth didn't start today in her heat for the Breaststroke 100m

A Shoulder Injury kept her out, apparently.

    http://thescore.thejournal.ie/disappointment-for-firth-as-she-is-forced-to-pull-out-of-100m-breaststroke-586210-Sep2012/
IRELAND’S FIRST GOLD medal winner at the London Paralympics, Bethany Firth, has been withdrawn from Thursday morning’s 100m breaststroke and will not be able to compete.
The 16-year-old has a recurring shoulder injury, and also had to be pulled from last Sunday’s S14 200m Freestyle with the same complaint.
Firth had secured gold in the S14 100m backstroke last week.

How about a potential gold medal on Friday morning with Mark Rohan in the hand-cycling? ;)

What event is he in tomorrow..?

That Hand-cycling looks like great craic (and bloody dangerous at the same time). Surely thats a sport that could be embraced by the IOC..? Why not give everyone a go at it? Also our Mark would have a clear advantage...;)

Nice story in the Independent today - we're going to need more statues!
The continued success of Irish athletes at the games has left Paralympics Ireland in a minor dilemma.

When an athlete wins a medal, they are then presented with a glass statue from the Irish team.

However, not anticipating the level of success, just 14 were ordered.

"We didn't order enough of these things," Paralympics Ireland chief executive Liam Harbison said earlier this week.

A few stories lifted directly from @paralympicsireland on Twitter. Not a great day for us so far.

Disaster for Colin Lynch as he crashes on first lap in Road Race and is listed as DNF

Cathal Miller finishes 14th place in an aggressive Road Race won by Dementyov of Ukraine, in the Men's C4-5 category

James Scully has finished 13th in the 50m Backstroke in a time of 45.27 and outside of this evening's final.

In other news, Ellen Keane goes in the final of the 200m IM SM9 Swimming at 17.38, that's our final athlete today. She qualified 6th fastest in this mornings heats

Medal watch.... It's another huge day tomorrow for the Irish Paralympic team with 3 very strong medal prospects in action.

Jason Smyth goes in pursuit of the Paralympic double double (100m/200m golden double at both Beijing and London Olympics) tomorrow evening. It would be the shock of the Games if he didn't go on to win the 200m and bring home yet another Paralympic title for Ireland.

Jason Smyth showing off his gold medal from the 100m:

Mark Rohan is another man going for a golden double of his own. Having already bagged gold in the H1 time-trial event, Mark is back in action tomorrow morning in the road race and is the favourite to come home in first place. Gold is not a certainty but he is the man to beat in this event and fingers crossed he'll get another gold medal and bolster his status as the best in the world in his category.

Mark savouring his gold medal from the H1 Time-Trial:

Catherine O'Neill is back in action tomorrow having narrowly failed to win a medal in last week's club throw, eventually finishing the competition in 4th position having been in a medal position for so long. However her prospects for the women's F51/52/53 Shot Put tomorrow are much brighter and she comes into the event as the reigning World Champion. She won't be the outright favourite though as a British girl in the same disability category has a much better season's best than Catherine but she is certainly looking good for a medal at least, if she can get close to her best form. Gold is not a certainty for anyone either though so keep your eyes on Catherine's progress tomorrow morning. I'm predicting a medal for New Ross woman.

Despite not adding to the medal tally today, Ireland are still well up the medals table in 19th place. Tomorrow however, is set to make up for that with 3 huge medal prospects in action, Jason and Mark favoured for gold and Catherine capable of a medal at the very least.
All in all, tomorrow is shaping up to be a great one for the Irish and possibly yet another golden day!!

As expected, Catherine has been overhauled by the British girl who has a huge lead. Still looking great for silver or bronze...most likely silver :)

Mark Rohan is in a breakaway Group of five leading the cycling after 24km of the 48km race.

6th place rider is 37 seconds back, the others are two minutes behind the leaders
