A friend made cottage pie with baked beans in it for me a few years back and I liked it, I've never made cottage pie before (with or without beans).

Does anyone have any tips or ideas what mades a good or bad pie?

    Thanks

I've never used baked beans in a cottage pie but I have heard of it.

There's an old thread about cottage pie with recipes and tips HERE, and others if you search the forum.

I did look up other threads but couldn't find anyone that used baked beans, just wondering would I have to leave something out with them because of the extra juice or would it all add to the flavour. Any ideas/ tips would be great :)

I'd drain the beans, but not wash them. The sauce clinging to them would add to the flavour of the gravy, I'd say, but adding it all would be too much.

Thanks for that, I've just finished making chilli con carne instead (with chilli kidney beans, I'm in a bean mood!) but I'll definately try the cottage pie next week

Beans are great in cottage pie.
