Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Southampton continue their baptism of fire in the Premiership with a game
against last seasons runners up Manchester UTD who will want to build on their
first win last week against Fulham.

Van Persie seems to have settled in very nicely for the away side with a goal
on his home debut, while fellow new recruit Kagawa has blended into the
team seamlessly with some very impressive performances.

Southampton meanwhile are yet to find their first point and will be looking to
Rickie Lambert to show some of the form from last season that saw them
promoted to Englands top division and him crowned Championship player of
    the year.

    Possible line ups:

RVP hattrick & Kagawa to give a masterclass.

I'm hoping we line up like that, very excited to see more of Kagawa too.

Fergie is fuming in regards to the FA releasing details about Young's injury and he has every right to be.

Easy 3-0 win, RVP with 2 , I'll go with Nani for the 3rd :)

That's my hope (line up wise) too. I feel Cleverley justifies the start, also, he is the future and Scholes is probably in his last season. I'd be disappointed to see anyone else start ahead of Cleverley.

The rest of the team picks itself really I feel, especially with Young injured and Evans back from injury. It'll be nice to play with 4 defenders again...

    Definitely!

I hope we stop messing around at RB this season, it's nice to have players that can provide cover but if he's fit and playing well Raf should be starting.

Sunday 4pm KO - cant beat them....

Am hoping we can pull out a performance - and a bloody clean sheet would be a bonus too. Great to see carrick back where he is at his best.

Expecting nothing less then 3 points.

    RVP to score. 3-0

Agreed. Anything less than 3 points would be a big disappointment. Kagawa to run the show and score. 2-1 to United.

Not sure that we're up to keeping a clean sheet yet as defence isn't settled. We could with some luck but I'll go for 1-3. Kagawa to get one of them.

Nani to score a hattrick. :)

Lindegaard, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Cleverley, Valencia, Kagawa, Welbeck, Van Persie

Welbeck on the left ffs.

Welbeck has been crap so far, hopefully his performance picks up today!

Nani's omission is strange, but De Gea is even weirder!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,949 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Why no De Gea? He has been playing really well and with Rio and Vidic in front of him he'd be better off.

    Welbeck on the left? :(

    Nick Powell on the bench

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Fenix

Donno what Fergie is doin with the Nani hate! Understand (but don't agree with) bringing Anders in for DDG, he made a ****up against fulham and Lindegaard is more physical anyway, could be important in an away game like this.

Rio staring is a big suprise!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

It is a bit WTF by Fergie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭James Forde

It's rotation folks, Lindegaard played for the u21s midweek and make two super saves could be a contributing factor.

DDG's "mistake" aside he made some vital saves last week. No reason for him to be dropped

Rotating goalkeepers, especially at this stage in the season, makes zero sense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,364 ✭✭✭✭Kylo Ren

Nani leaving is looking more promising now D:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,688 ✭✭✭Nailz

I reckon Rio play one half with Jonny coming on for the other. I'm immensely disappointed for Nani, I do like Danny but he's no winger, Nani must be baffled. And why is Andres Lindegaard starting? I certainly it's not for the mix up on Fulham's second goal the other week as Vidic was equally at fault for that in my opinion.

    Any word on the subs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

Well, I guess Southampton have been preparing all week by focusing on DDGs weaknesses, Fergie troll face.

Welbeck on the left ffs.

Would it be more likely Kagawa will play there? I can't make sense of some of the selections he's made...

Do you mean with just this lineup. There are only 2 really questionable, we have a good back 4 and the keeper who's coming in is solid.

I do hope its not Kag on the left though, let him and RVP get that understanding through the middle. Welbeck has the movement to come in from the left and will also work hard defensively

I wonder if Lallana's comments about targeting DDG has brought this about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,709 ✭✭✭✭Cantona's Collars

I hope this fiddling doesn't end up with us losing the game.As poor as Nani has been he needs time on the pitch & can make something happen from nothing.

I want Kagawa in the hole behind RVP,possibly it'll happen & Wellbeck will play out wide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,772 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

Fergie saying DDG will be back in in a couple of weeks time, referred to the mistake, could have cost us the game and a learning curve. Basically its punishment then

Fergie hanging De Gea out to dry a bit there. Surprising.

    Oh Jamie, you're so controversial.

    +1

Nicest full kit in the league imo. Even the subtle chequered shorts are lovely.

    Nice ball from Carrick

It's very noticeable how physical Van Persie is when compared with our other forwards. He really gives us a different dimension.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,772 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

The pressing high up the pitch from us is very good

Nicely done set piece in fairness. Just missing the finishing touch.
