    Such as?
Americans are stupid. Republicans are the the most extreme right party in the world, thank god we don't have one of them in the EU.
I understand that Americans live in a vast country, but I'd wager that more Europeans could tell you what state Los Angeles is in that Americans could say what country Berlin is in.

LA is twice as big as Berlin.

Am I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, and if you are it's a redundant point anyway.

Berlin and LA are roughly the same size. But Berlin is one of the oldest economic and cultural centers in the developed world, as well as being the focal point of the most terrible war in history, while LA is a cesspit of gangs, porn, and homeless people, that's only famous because of a very wealthy minority who are involved in the movie industry.

Berlin has 6 million in the metro area, LA has 12/13 million.

LA is very famous because it's massive. It is a far more relevant city to Europeans than Berlin is to Americans in the modern day.

LOL! You have zero idea what you're babbling about.

    A. Porn is in the San Fernando Valley, and adds greatly to the tax coffers here. We make the best in the world, and the financial proceeds show that. Nothing 'cesspit' about that at all.
    B. No, the gang violence problems are nothing remotely close to what they were in the 80s and 90s. I work in that field, as it were, and see this every night I pull a shift.
    C. Plenty of homeless people, and plenty of people looking after them, all over the city.
    D. There are major industries here like electronics, banking and finance, aerospace, international trade, shipping and others.

    Stereotypes really don't suit you.

The city populations are roughly equal, if you want to talk about metro areas that's fine. The LA metro area is made up a a number of large urban centers.

'Relevant' is a very subjective word. In Economic/Political terms, Berlin should be pretty important to Americans because of the way Germany controls the EU now, pretty much. In Social terms, the movie industry makes LA pretty high-profile to everyone.

I don't agree about the homeless people, I've been to America and was left with a very negative impression of how the poor are treated there.

I haven't been to LA but I've heard and read that it's much worse.

Obviously as a resident of LA you're naturally going to want to defend it, and know more than I do about the city, but to go preaching from the rooftops saying that the city is, for want of a better phrase, all that, is just silly.

The reason Berlin and LA were brought up in the first place was to draw a comparison between the relative world-knowledge differentials of average Americans and Europeans, and I think that point stands.

It's not a d*ck measuring contest between two cities, I was just trying to be...am...*colourful.

    *notice the 'u' ;)

    Wait a sec....

You haven't been here, but you disagree about my comments regarding LA?

I'm not trying to defend it. I'm just correcting your misstatements and mischaracterizations of the city. That's hardly 'preaching from the rooftops'.

It's like if I said, "All buildings in Dublin have purple roofs".

Pointing out that that's not true isn't defending Dublin or preaching from the rooftops about it.

The reason Berlin and LA were brought up in the first place was to draw a comparison between the relative world-knowledge differentials of average Americans and Europeans, and I think that point stands.

No harm, no foul. And I live in the porn capital of the entire planet.

Penis measuring contests aren't really all that necessary here.

    Yes. In some respects.

    Yes. In some respects.

Did you know that all buildings in Dublin have purples roofs?

Just because I've never been there doesn't mean I can't read information that's freely available all over the internet.

    Have you ever been homeless?

Saying that there's 'plenty of people taking care of them' doesn't mean anything.

I've lived in Ireland all my life and know next to nothing about what the life of a homeless person is like, only that it's likely to be a bit better than that of one in the US, due to there being less Irish homeless.

Just as I read, on the 'net, that all buildings in Dublin have purple roofs.

    Have you ever been homeless?

As a matter of fact yes, I have been homeless.

Saying that there's 'plenty of people taking care of them' doesn't mean anything.

Every city in the world has homeless. Even the beautiful purple-roofed Dublin is no exception to this.

    Ah, I see.

This is getting silly. Fair enough you've been homeless.

Your purple-roofed Dublin comparison is starting to remind me of McCain's Joe the Plumber references in the final debate of the 2008 election.

I didn't say nobody in Dublin was homeless. But LA isn't as rosie as you're making out either.

It shouldn't, as they they have nothing in common.

I'm not painting LA out to be 'rosie'; I'm correcting blatantly false and stereotypical statements you made about LA that you garnered from reading on the Internet while admitting you've never been here.

Regardless, this is derailing the thread, and is my last comment on the matter.

Guess I'm showing my age in music taste... a play on the song Hair by the Cowsills which was popular in the 60's. Give it a listen if you've never heard it.
