Has anyone gotten Home to work in Rift Core 2? I just get a red error box.

Desktop mode is great though, far clearer than Bigscreen.

Yep I use that and the PSVR one but we had a vote on getting a similar one here that loads of people supported.

    ...except the admins it seems

Many more VR related subreddits too:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/wiki/related_subreddits

and maybe some more that are not on the first link:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/wiki/usefullinks

I don't think boards can compete with a global userbase when it comes to gaming. Discord might soak up the rest of pc gamers too but I think Boards will always be the place to go for Irish-specific stuff like (off the top of my head) legal advice, accomodation and Weather

Might as well shut the whole gaming category down now then

I din't think boards can compete with sites that are actually responsive to their customers :D

Boards differs from Reddit in a lot of ways...

    - Userbase is in Ireland so you can relate news of deals specific to just Ireland (e.g. PSVR / PCVR headset sales in B&M shops) and not have to filter through to find news about products we can't get here

    - The format of boards posts is different to the default reddit style where comments are ranked by popularity (I know you can select a different sorting, but you rarely change this), whereas boards is sorted by date posted

    - The craic is mighty on boards and the community is unique where conversation flows naturally. There are too many "OMG VR has CHANGED MY LIFE!!!" posts on reddit (which while great to see occassionally) are kinda tiresome. Conversations on boards would be a bit more measured (excusing After Hours of course)

Anyway the fact of the matter is, this was voted on already. We're now waiting 6 months for the forum to actually be built after the vote was completed.

Beasty has said this will be created "on a trial basis" back in December, so still waiting to get an update on this too.

I wonder did the crypto currency forum take this long to start?

Indeed, though admittedly, the gap between when the request start to now is so big, my enthusiasm for the forum is gone before it even got off the ground.

Hence why now is the perfect time for all the newbies that have joined after the Xmas sales!

Agreed, though arguably the best time of the year was Christmas week though. Those noobies have likely long since found other communities/forums by now.

I've been working on development over the last few months and I made a silly little VR game. I'm going to release it on Steam for free, but I've done all my own testing on my Vive, and apparently it should work just fine on the Rift through SteamVR but I would really like to test that out. Would anyone be willing to take a couple of minutes to see if my game works for them? Reply here or PM me and I'll send you a link.

    Hugs and kisses.

Hi, I can try and check later tonight if it suits.

Yeah so this forum isn't happening .. fairly disrespectful to the people that voted for it I would say.

Even I'm beginning to lose interest now (not in VR mind, just in using boards for VR discussion). Reddit all the way tbh.

The death of boards is imminent if this keeps up.

    Reddit all the way tbh.

I think Reddit & Boards can co-exist, I prefer Reddit for some things, & Boards for others. Though in this particular case, Reddit has been the only option unfortunately.

Ha, that's be cried for years. Though I would say, I do believe how Boards is handling new forum development & growth in general, is it's biggest limitation. This case in particular, has been a very negative example of forum creation.

Im not sure its boards fault really. For example theres a Home Entertainment forum on boards for as long as ive been a member which is a long time as you see and even back in the early noughties in boards heyday, one was better off going to the dedicated forum big boys of Avforums(UK) and AVSforum(US) for any questions you had other than "Should I buy my new TV in Powercity or DID Electrical.

Pretty much. No response from Beasty on the matter when I PM him and no action from any of the powers that be.

No doubt that specialised and dedicated forums will always trump more generalised forums, I don't think that's in dispute. Five months ago the request was put in though. I don't partake in attributing blame really, but I would say, five months is way, way too long. Obviously the Admin team don't want bloated categories full of dead forums, but if three out of every five new ideas/forums die, that leaves two that won't (statistics pulled from arse). The point is, if a forum dies after a trial period, fine, it's been tried, lock it up. If it succeeds, great. Ultimately, it costs nothing to try!

I think it might be my fault. I originally suggested a VR forum and it didn't get enough votes so I volunteered to mod this one. TBH that was probably about 6 nails in it's coffin! :pac:

Has anyone got recommendations for the sensor extenders? Looking to get a couple of extra meters. Also in the hunt for an L shaped desk to hold 2 iMacs and the PC

    This one works for me.

I've been using that one too, it sometimes doesn't work though - just constant disconnect/reconnect when I enter a game. I've done all the power management things as far as I know. Have unenrolled from the public testing channel so hoping that's made the difference as it was fine yesterday.

I have an Inateck USB PCI card and use the Amazon cable without issue. Use them with sensors and to extend the headset.

Mine is plugged directly into the motherboard. Only extending the one sensor and that's the one that disconnects. It was doing it again tonight so thinking I might return the 3m cable to amazon and replace it with a 2 metre one as I've read people say the longer the cable the more problems that can arise.

So many variables! Motherboard compatibly, cable quality, cable length can all effect performance. 2m might be worth a shot alright but I'm glad I have a dedicated USB card TBH. I seem to have been lucky, all my cables have worked first time without issue, even extending the headset HDMI and USB cables worked great using a cheap repeater.

  • Registered Users Posts: 381 ✭✭TheKells

Don't want to jinx it but I got one of them Inateck cards and haven't had a single disconnect since installing it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,491 ✭✭✭M00lers

Makes sense though. Dedicated card Vs dodgy Motherboard controllers. I have 2 Inateck card in each of my rigs just to take away any doubt about onboard USB foibles.

    That looks awesome!
What tubey stuff did you use that surrounds the 2 cables?

Looks like the netting stuff that wraps around the cables attached to a power supply for a PC.

Exactly that. Grabbed some 15mm cable braiding off eBay. Nice stuff.
