Raceroom racing experience on steam has got DK2 support(ish), it's a "free2play" game where you pay for the content but you do get one or two free car/track combos. They're supposed to be fairly quick with their DK2 support.

The tested guys got to try out crescent bay, in the interviews they say there's going to be no DK3, it's a sprint to the consumer version from here on.

Nice one, R3E is a pretty easy to run game, will check it out.

Just got my rift today. :)

Is there any good guides out there for setup?

Any personal do's/don't or stuff you wish you had known previous?

    Ditto :)

Except I'm baby sitting tonight and won't get a chance to use it until tomorrow.

nice one, i must give it a whirl at some stage.
I tried Grid Autosport last night, its very handy thats it supports direct to rift but i had awful judder even when maintaining 75FPS on my 780Ti, i knocked it down to min settings and it removed the judder, smooth as butter.
I need to play about with the settings more, find what settings will give good quality and no judder.
The corners on open track( f1 type cars ) were difficult to see but the gamma in the game is too high for the rift also making the whole scene washed out and difficult to see contrast( for corners ) so ill check if lowering that makes it easier to see. The regular tracks should be easy to see as they have walls etc unlike open track.
All in all i enjoyed it and great to have another racer on the rift even though in terms of arcade racer i much prefer Grid 1.

I see the update for Grid is out now, is there much tinkering to be done or is just a matter of plug and play?

Pretty cool use for the rift.

i havnt tried with the "patched" version where the option is supposed to be selectable from the menus, but to get it working was just a matter of:
    1. launch the game with no modifications to anything if youve never launched it before, configure steering or whatever controller.
    2. pasting the bit of xml from the codemasters blog( although what they say has errors in the comma's so i fixed them up so xml is valid ).
    3. Launch the game, set on min settings so no judder and play
    4. Start tinkering with the options to get best visuals/no judder and 75fps, also i noticed default gamma is too high for the oled the rift is using making everything a bit washed out so reduce it. )

    Basically 5 min job.

Cheers, I have the patch done so I'll give it a shot later. Stopped playing Autosport a while back because I was so bad at online races.

    Set up my DK2 yesterday.

    Pretty happy with the results.

All the demos looks great. Some judder on a few intense ones.

Looking forward to Elite now :D

How good is the DK2? Is it reasonable to play sandbox games or is it too blurry and unclear for real gaming? I love the concept but I do not feel confident investing 400 if all we have is demos and poorly made games.
    I currently use i7 with 16GB RAM and GTX 760 4GB in case that's a factor.
    Thank you.

Your spec is fine. As for games, the best game by far is Elite Dangerous so if you don't think that is your cup of tea then I wouldn't bother as the rest of the good experiences are really only demos.

Some other games support the rift (Euro truck, Grid, Alien isolation) but are not as comfortable to play as Elite

If you play Elite then you'll probably want a joystick and throttle as well

Elite is nice concept but I am more in sandboxes like GTA and Watch Dogs. Basically something closer to reality. Give me GTA V on PAC with jetpack and OR support and we have a deal but it looks like this is not happening any time soon. Maybe in 2015 so.
    Thanks for the answer.

    Q4 2015 or 2016.

Either way the tech you'll need will leave you short changed until then.

Theres rumours of a new Devkit available to order April( going by the previous devkits they wont be delivered until June/July ), it wont really be a devkit but more that it will be the consumer version but maybe not the same form factor.

Is the 'public beta' mentioned here what you're talking about?
    http://www.gamespot.com/articles/oculus-rift-consumer-version-release-date-could-be/1100-6422324/

Not sure what 'beta' means in this context: is it like "we're hoping this is the finished article but if some flaws turn up we'll be able to correct them before the full consumer release"?

Gave serious thought to getting the DK2 but eventually decided to hold off for the real thing. Planning to head out that shop in Maynooth some weekend before Christmas to have a go on their rift...

no its not official, i dont have the link but Oculus said theyre thinking about releasing a pre consumer version next year.

You want my honest opinion, as much as i love my DK2, its going to be another 5 years or more before this takes off. The current experience is fantastic but its nowhere near where average people expect VR to be.

Once there's a breakthrough for OLED it could be used in these with 4k resolution. Really want this to take off and see developers use it and try to make their games look as good as possible on PC, no more holding back to cater to inferior "next gen" consoles. The thing about this is it's not limited to games. Can imagine it'd be an experience to watch movies, TV and, let's be honest, porn on it. Even better that there are versions being developed for phones. Probably wouldn't use one in public though because you'd be pretty vulnerable to thief's and scumbags to be honest.

Well at least once it was stolen people would stop laughing so there would a silver lining.

Yeah, and then return to staring at their own screens.

People laughed at the first people who used and talked on mobile phones in public also. Technology is always weird/funny when it starts out and early adapters use it publicly, but gradually over time the people who laughed will be jumping on the bandwagon lol

I really don't think it's going to do that as soon as its released if the screens are 4K. Very few GPUs are up to the task of running 4K at anything close to a playable framerate and for OR I've heard you need at least ~100Hz to avoid issues with motion. Then there's the fact that it's running two images instead of one (effectively doubling the resolution) and it's not exactly going to be a case of watching PCs soar through this. On top of that, with new game engines coming out, running new games at "old" resultions like 1080p are still going to be tougher because of greatly increased visual quality. Honestly, my biggest worry is whether computing technology will catch up to display technology for OR gaming.

True. It'll all happen eventually, I'm still only a console gamer but once this takes off I'll blow some money on a decent rig because vr on PC will be a lot better than console vr and have a lot more uses

OMFG i just tried Assetto Corsa tonight with the DK2 support and fixes, new oculus driver and latest nvidia drivers, wow, just wow, i mean you are in the car. I drove around spa for a few hours, played it for so long since the 90's and just experiencing it in VR was such a truely amazing moment, im still shocked.

not true,90-95Hz is what they are aiming for, the consumer version will most likely be 1440p, not 4K. Nvidia and AMD are working towards load balancing gpu power for VR as opposed to the current AFR which is crap for VR. In another year for VR it will be 1 gpu per eye for vr.

You have a point in that for the first time in a long while gpu performance on PC is way behind screen technology.

Even so, those are much higher than average framerates and much higher than average resolution (especially when you consider it has to do it twice, you're looking at nearly 3.5x the pixels on a 1080p screen). I hope it does work out but I do worry that it will be expensive to run for a while yet and that might stifle the initial takeoff.

i agree on the performance requirements, if you do the math 1440p@90hz only requires twice the gpu power of what 1080p requires:
    1920x1080x75 = 155520000
    2560x1440x90 = 331776000
So its easily dooable if SLI/crossfire supports VR, damn expensive, but dooable, i would get 2xtop end cards if it was needed, lol.
