Heres a demo of that multi-display and desktop display that was mentioned earlier in the thread...

    Ooops, link would be handy:

This is what I've been waiting for. I hope this DE is free and open source with a a pay-what-you-want or donate DLC options. The less overhead and checks in the actual software the better. We won't have a true VR DE until an actual OS comes packaged with it innately as a primary DE. Drivers and hardware detection will have to have much better support for VR for that to become usuable out-of-the-box, though. In other words it would have to be usable right from fresh install with a listed VR headset and not require a monitor. That's when entirely unique computer setups will be viable. Ones where not even a desk will be necessary... but probably still nice to have at least some elevated flat surface real-estate for keyboard, mouse and keeping one's computer off the floor... which may not need to be too close by, however. But maybe enhancements in VR input like gloves w/ feedback will be able to render in-VR soft keyboards. That's a bit ahead...

Still, this is the first steps we can see and I think it's going to be pretty damn cool as it is now... so the future is bright in this regard.

This software looks like it could really benefit from down-sampling, though. Right now it takes the resolution of connected monitors as-is. Downsampling could really increase the resolution real-estate. With the right programming wizardry one could potentially free up the entire VR environment to allow windows to truly move freely outside the bounds of their actual monitor and into all the area surrounded the user. But again... that's probably for actual VR DEs.

Nice overview of some future Rift games by Tested.

I think Scumlord will find the comment about peoples racing skills improving with VR interesting.

I have to say though that the way the headphones are attached to the Rift is a poor design.

They're not even on the ears of the people trying it out half the time.

Wondering when we're expecting the first rifts to drop through Irish letterboxes?

The shipping info only changes in the evening California time, so there will either be an update this evening or sometime before lunch tomorrow if the regional centres are handling the distribution/order updates.

And nope, everyone in europe is still in TBA bar some preorders who got the 1/3 weeks delivery email.

Sony are *considering* bringing PSVR to PC according to Masayasu Ito, Chief Executive of the Product Division and software design department of SCE, in an article on Japanese news site Nikkei:

    http://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXMZO98760930T20C16A3000000/?df=2

"Since Playstation 4 shares a lot of its internals with PCs, the possibility is there. At the moment we are focused on games and we are not ready to make any announcements at this stage, but I’d say there will be an expansion into various fields."

    Translated version here:

    http://segmentnext.com/2016/03/28/sony-considering-playstation-vr-pc/

That would make the PSVR even better value for money for people who have PC's as well as the PS4.

What games would you play with it though or would it just be a generic VR device that you could run stuff on?

    Pornhub. :p

I guess it would be upto developers to implement it, if an SDK is released it would mean a lot of indie games / demos would be possible with it,
which are what I would miss personally from using it on the PS4.

The resolution of the screen is what limits it mostly since it is the same specs as the Oculus Rift DK2. But apparently it has better optics than the DK2 so maybe you won't notice the pixelation as much.

However, the limited resolution could also be a major benefit since you will not need an enthusiast PC to run it. The line-up of games for the PSVR are really impressive too and go far beyond what Oculus and Valve have come up with in terms of social gaming, family friendly gaming and making the most of the motion sensor so even those without a headset can join in. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony are also eyeing the mid range PC gaming market and will lower the price of the PSVR even more but they also don't want people getting sick because their PC can't keep up.

Warning for those considering buying Adr1ft: there are two versions of this game, Adr1ft and Adr1ft VR with the following proviso on the VR version: "this version of Adr1ft is sold exclusively through the Oculus Home store and is separate from the standard desktop version - buying one does not get you the other."

Let the exclusives war begin! :D

Looks like you might be able to use the PlayStation VR headset with your PC http://www.engadget.com/2016/03/28/sony-mulls-playstation-vr-for-pc/

Watched a bit of the stream. They all seemed miserable and not excited, but they're always miserable, right?

Will VorpX work with the CV1? I was about to order it but then it struck me it's designed for the DK2.

I'm sure it will be updated. The thing is, though, that I really don't think retrofitting non-VR games for VR is going to work very well or be something people do very much. If a game isn't built from the ground up to be VR-capable then you're likely just going to get a nausea-inducing, illegible mess. There will probably be a few exceptions, but I think people will mostly be playing VR-dedicated games going forward. It's one of those things people only think they want.

It's being done relatively sucessfully on FO4 and GTAV however the main use is Flight Sims which I'd guess is a massive part of Rift/Vives market at the moment. I know loads of us into Sims have had DKs at some point.

Saw that on the blog - I'll expect 3 weeks then. Just hoping they'll ship from within the EU!

Thanks for keeping us updated, I'll do the same.
