Im trying to purchase but getting error message when paying through paypal... How did you pay? Credit card?

I was getting that too. What I did is click proceed to checkout, bottom yellow box. (You will still pay by paypal at the end)
Next click checkout as guest or sign up if you want.
Then at payment options click the top paypal logo, as if you click the bottom you will get the same error message as before, as I did.

panamoz also do 5% off if you pay with a bank transfer - takes them a day to set up the invoice for this thought but passing on the savings to bypass visa/paypal charges is a nice option :)

Were you the user who bought off them before?
Where are they based England or China?

Had a play with a dummy one in Newbridge.

With the small bezel around the screen there doesn't seem to be a lot of space to hold the thing without pressing something on the screen.

Current Note owners - have you ever dropped yours / had many near misses ?

Well your hand barely makes it around the phone to hold it by the edges so you would have to have a massive hand to be able to go around the corners and touch the screen with your holding hand. I think they have put the power button in the wrong place as I'm pressing it quite a bit while holding it.

I don't know why people associate a big phone with dropping it. I would think if anything the smaller the more likely!

picked mine up yesterday, very impressed with screen, audio and device performance so far. still unsure if i find the s-pen a bit gimmicky or not as there is very little integration outside of the stock samsung apps, which i have always deleted in the past. battery life seems comparable with my s2 on a good day which is impressive as i would have been playing with it quite a lot yesterday.
for comparison, my s2 and the note2 were on around 80% at lunch time yesterday,
barely using the s2 its now on 36% and the note with moderate (no video) was at 58%
i didnt put either of them in airplane mode over night

i really like burst mode on the camera and it great to have a notification LED again.

has anyone bought a flip cover? ive never used one, but my s2 was is showing many signs of wear so am thinking this will be even worse
the official one looks pretty good

Agreed about the s pen. It would be nice if it worked on all apps. I am liking it for scrolling. If you hover it near the end of the Page a little arrow appears and starts scrolling. I wish it scrolled faster though. Anyone know if it's possible to increase the speed.

I'd probably buy the cover @ €20 - near €40 is taking the piss imo.

try the s-pen with the swype keyboard - hugely increase your typing speed!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

how do you get swype? and do you still have to switch back to the stock keyboard if you want to use handwriting?

nah you can use it as standard as well for those moments where you are using non-dictionary words like passwords etc...

is it not in the phone by default? it's on mine but I did install a custom Rom so... ;)

I like using swype but I think I'm going to change keyboard as I can't believe I don't have the option of having a comma or question mark on the stock keyboard. Seeing as the screen is so big it really Crap I can't have them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

found it in settings, samsung keyboard, continuous input.
will give it a go, i changed from swype to swiftkey a long time ago on my phones.

this is the first phone that im not planning customising from the outset as i want to see how the integration with the s-pen really works so im sticking with as all stock items for now. going to start setting up emails, videos and galleries later today and see if i can customise my homescreen as much as i want to without needing go launcher.

going to sound stupid here, but i had a pullout side bar with shortcuts on it yesterday and it seems to be disabled now, does anyone know how to get it back?

The Big problem I see with moving from stock is that you lose the option to use handwriting easily.

    Unless I'm missing something?

    Blue half circle thing?
That's the multi window bar. Drove me crazy when I didn't know its purpose or how to get rid of it?
Press and hold the back button to toggle in and off

This is the new dual screen option that people are talking about on the galaxy note 2.

To enable it do a long press on the back button.

nice one, must look into dual screen mode and what it can do..

    //edit
Just playing with it now, probably the coolest feature I've seen. Is it a touchwiz thing or will it work on custom launchers?

At the moment AFAIK it only works on touchwiz.

This originally came out first on the galaxy note 10.1 but it only worked for Samsung apps. Its great to see its been expanded for Google apps ans some other 3rd party apps such as twitter and Facebook and with maybe more to come.

Its brilliant to be able to see two screens at once on a 5 inch Phone/tablet

Its working for every app for me.
Youtube on top, browser on the bottom. A real differentiating feature and one that I think will silence a lot of phone size criticism

    Floating keyboard is quality too!

How does the floating keyboard work?

Apparently floating browser is available too!

Available on Three contract now. Unusually, prices are not competitive with Meteor. €189 on the Classic Flex Max €40.66/month for 24 months.

it switches to that version automatically which you can drag around the screen to making viewing or typing easier.
just to confirm, its not every app, there are quite a few in the list but not all. i dont know what the reason for this is.

Samsung releases Galaxy Note II source code

This can only be a good thing right? Ordered mine today from meteor.

Just realised that the s pen can be used to perform a mouse over hover in the browser.
This is something that I always wondered about implementing in a touch screen device.

Also, swype and s pen is the business!

noooooo, i scratched my screen already! Have no idea how, didnt scratch my S1 in 18 months. I wonder is this screen more prone to scratches! :(

I doubt it. I always keep my phones in my pocket with nothing else. Less likely to scratch it.

same as me, i have no idea how it was scratched, its either pocket by itself, hand or charging on its back for me!

im actually considering the theory that I may have scratched it with the "wrong" silver metal end of the s-pen, although I don't remember touching it like that. I didnt let a few people have a go of it, maybe they did that.

That is NOT good news for a phone with a screen that size that touts the S pen as a big feature

A scratched screen on Gorilla Glass? That's a right bummer

Strange considering this screen test. I wonder do you have a defect in the glass? You should follow it up with Samsung.

I dont want to sound smart but i wouldn't use any expensive phone without a screen protector... It's matter of one piece of sand in your pocket and you are fcvked! Pen would not harm it even if you hit the glass. I have mine note first version for nearly a year and acreen protector is all covered with scratches... And i replaced the screen protector once already. Be careful with some glove/pocket covers when you slide phone to remove as these are very dangerous... Again piece of sand and you are done.

Im very pedantic and scratch wouls drive me mad! But some people just don't care and it doesn't bother them...

Settings, language and input, samsung, Enable continuous input. Then you can drag around letters to type.
It's really fast. Way better than it used to be.

I doubt it is prone to scratches considering how this lunatic is attacking the phone with the knife.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,503 ✭✭✭adamski8

jesus im really lost to how mine got scratched then if it can withstand that! its only a minor scratch about 1cm long.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

That's messed up about the scratches. Do you think it could be s faulty screen?

FOr anyone side loading Flash, I've found this to be the most sta ble version

for anyone that is rooted (xda note2 forum for those that are not) I've ditched the touchwiz launcher for apex and changed the DPI to 240 using Rom toolbox - makes it more phablet for me. Some apps render better (some worse like the sammy camera :() and overall there is more "room" on the screen :) see example screenshots (re-sized to 60%)

Went ahead and ordered the flip case yesterday.
Arrived today which is pretty cool.

Have to say. Despite the high cost. It really is a quality item. I'd highly recommend it. Ads almost no extra bulk and covers the device perfectly

Yeah. Went for the silver one. I'd say the screen cover is about .1 and the back cover about the same to accommodate the hinge. It's not noticeable at all and even offers s bit of protection for the camera lens.

What happens when you pull the cover open? Does the front fold flat into the back? Can you attach some pics?

    Thanks!

all you can eat is subject to 15gb usage I think where they "may" cut you off if it affects other users which is fair enough. You have to pay for 15gb on Meteor - costs €30 a month on it's own

personally I have the €25/month 200 mins 200 texts and 1gig of data and got the note 2 for €250. not a bad deal the best there is over the course of the 18 month me thinks :)

I can't vouch for three - head over to their forum for some horror stories but a few lads in work are on it and haven't had a bother!
