Has anyone any idea why 3g has become very tempremental of late, one minute it is connected than bang it's gone. I have difficulty understanding the man in mumbai.
Is there a better broadband, our line will not take dial -up, though perhaps some might say it stops me posting, my usual rubbish no names no pack drill. Foxy

Are you using a modem or tethering a smartphone? Because smartphones are known to be dodgy on the 3g after a few months.

Hi, no we are using a modem. at the moment 3g are looking into the problem, we have intertmittant service, makes internet frustrating, thanks for response

Sadly, mobile broadband can be very intermittent depending on many variables such as location, bandwidth, latency and the amount of people using it.
Mobile broadband, for me, would definitely be a last resort (excluding dial-up, naturally!).

Where are you based? Have a look/search in the Broadband forum - Some great information/reviews there.

I am currently in the middle of nowhere, up on a hill on the far side of Bagenalstown using Aptus (who specialise in rural areas) and the connection never drops, speeds are consistent and they provide good service.

Mine has become much more unstable in the last 6 weeks ( I'm about 6 miles east of KK). The modem is my only option so its very frustrating. It loses the signal every 5 or 10 mins at times. It used to be reasonably reliable if a bit slow. Any improvements in service or speed seems to be directed to the cities and towns and not to rural areas.

Inthehat, we live south west of KK I think towards the Tipp border and Mullinahone and Callan, the service has only really gone bad of late.
Spent some time reading Midband on the forum, very interesting, seeing that some people manage to make their own aerials which seem to do the trick.
To be honest I wonder why I can't, just plain useless, but 3g are looking into the problem, I do sort of make a nuiisance by phoning when it goes down.
If I get any response I will put it on the thread, though I suppose we might have to move to the broadband thread, see if Cabaal likes us.

Hi on this lovely sunny day, all is well with 3g, the internet is working fine, so we have a happy bunny at least, it was worth all the calls. Take care Foxy

Well it has gone haywire again, we get good service and then bang no internet connection for 10 to 15 minutes, sometimes longer.
Can this not really be solved, the network gang is supposed to be on it.

on my iphone i get a 3g connection for most of the day, then it just might drop suddenly for about an hour

    its just very annoying

We had another day of on/off internet, however so far today it is working well, one must presume the network gang have solved the problem, we wait and see.

I'd recomment aptus like the previous poster already mentioned.

How ever, I have used three broadband through tethering from a galaxy ace 2, flawless 85% of the time with speeds between 2-5 mb and some times dropping to 1.

they think they have sloved the problem, the modem was facing in the wrong direction, it has to look towards Ballycallan, previously it was facing Ballingarry. So now you know, cheers

How are you getting on with 3G. I only signed up last month but am having problems with, they are supposed to be looking into it but it is very annoying this close to christmas. Im thinking of leaving them already after just a month.

We have super service from 3g, ever since the outside device arrived, I would tell you we also have eircom wifi running as well, with 3g use the 1913 number everytime you get a glitch.
It really is good value, let us know how you get on, Foxy

Did you have to sign a 12 month contract ?
How would you get out of that if so.

We probably did, howev er if after exhaustive complaints I did not get any satisfaction I would suggest as they were unable to provide an adequate service I reserve the right to cancel my contract. However I reckon on that basis you will achieve a brill standard of service, after all they are running the national broadband scheme.
I rang everyday when we were not getting the service, delighted now and everyone says how fast ours is.
Stick with it mate, good luck. Foxy
