Council mess up again in Dundalk

Residents in Bay Estate recieved letters in the door today stating that work is to commence from tomorrow morning resurfacing all roads in the estate, taking about 11 days.
Would it not have made more sence doing this work over the last 8 or so weeks when the estate had very little traffic due to school holidays.
Now residents and parents leaving students to school have the added burden of workmen and their machinery in the estate.
The mind boggles sometimes with the idots that plan these work schedules in the town.

In normal Summers (:p), July and August are not good months for roadworks = something to do with tar setting etc.

Mostly has to do when money becomes available from Dept of the Enviornment...the old spend it or lose it rule (not often that money is ring fenced as it was for the square). The Council are quite capable of making mistakes on their own but central govt dept set the tone:o

Oh and if it lashes rain, freezes or the like then 11 days could become eh next chance they get. If ye see the company that has been tendered the work arsing around report them1

how about the parents put their kids on a bus, or better still a bike, or walk, instead of clogging up the road with needless traffic dropping their kids five minutes away to school in a bloody car?

I wonder will the company that was successful with its tender be from the south or will they get a northern company to complete the work ?

Why ?, To make your journey to work a lot easier. A lot of parents are dropping kids at both primary and secondary school so why shouldn't they drive.
That said, The contractors are doing a great job with traffic management in the estate so far.

Of course. The company is Gibson Bros from Newtownhamilton. Not a cent of money staying this side of the border.

They employ an irish company which costs more to the taxpayer?

or

They employ whoever is cheapest to the taxpayer and can do just as good a job?

First off gibson bros are based in banbridge and the reason why they are using northern companys is because its its cost effective

Gibson Bros bought T.H. Moore Ltd (Moores Quarry) who are based near Newtownhamilton, a few years back.
