A detailed article in today's Guardian Newspaper sums up what I have been saying repeatedly about Limerick City and it's potential. Article titled 'What makes a great place to live? Answer: it’s not a shopping plaza' by Simon Jenkins. One quote 'There is no question, the greatest asset to any British town or city is a medieval cathedral'. in my experience St. Mary's Cathedral is Limerick City's gem. an almost forgotten gem. Build up Nicholas Street and exploit the potential of the cathedral. Jenkin's also says 'Hipster watering holes in formerly run-down neighbourhoods are the new cathedrals'. we have the run-down street. Now for the Hipster watering hole.

one further quote from the article 'Always respect the old fabric of a city, be it Notre Dame or a tumbledown Bradford cellar. The past is the one sure investment in the future.'

Isn't there a plan for Treaty City Brewing to open a brew-pub near Nicholas Street?

Have they taken over a old pub?
If they could get good CCTV and maybe a security team on Nicolas street deffo be a nice street
Then you can also say keep it a real area

With Katie Dalys, bakehouse cafe all going in recently and nellys corner it's slowly turning into what will hopefully be a nice street. The Cauldron bar needs to go though to make any hope of that street anyway decent. Is there another pub on that street or is it closed?

You've the Rock which is across the road from the Cauldron, it's still open and don't think it will ever close down as it gets a steady stream of regulars that just want to enjoy a few pints and gained a few more regulars when the new crowd took over the Cauldron.

The problem is all the scumbags and feral kids going past when your sitting outside Katie Daly’s it’s ruins the vibe
Or all the kids just throwing there rubbish from rolls and wedges on the ground outside the shop

That's true. If they've any hope in regenerating that street they need to put some serious effort into controlling the anti social behaviour but if they havent done it already in other parts of the city I highly doubt they'll start now. Its a pity, that street has potential.

Treaty are opening up down by Treacys shop across the road from St Mary's action centre in the Alms houses. The Cauldron is on the next block up across from the red brick houses and the Rock is on the same side as the red brick houses on the corner as you head down the side of the cathedral towards the courthouse.

Did they buy the site or council owned?

Council owned I think. My sister was talking to the guy who owns Treaty brewery I think, he bought a cast iron fireplace from her for the site in Nicholas St but whoever he was was telling her they thought they'd be up and running sooner than expected but had to end up doing a lot more work than expected and work that the council told them they'd do but never did.

Was in Limerick yesterday and see there is a car park being constructed outside the people's park. Are half witted ideas more common since the two councils were merged.

Is this going to be a multistorey or a square of tar with a few white lines on it

Its tarmac with a few lines. Its part of the redevelopment of Parnell Street which they hopefully will end the double parking there.

The only thing that will end double parking is enforcement of parking laws!

Considering there was already plenty of parking next to that green area it won't have any affect on the double parking on Parnell Street.

Would anyone have full details on how they plan to tie this road in to mungret? Or have a layout on what they plan to do?

ya id like to see that too, i think the plan was to link it up with the roundabout out past the co-op, but for now it seems they have built a road into a housing estate and called it a link road?

They usually build these roads piecemeal and call them "Phases" as they are required. Usually the smaller sections are mainly developer funded or paid for from the housing infrastructure fund.

The extension to the roundabout in Raheen would be a lot more expensive and would possibly need to be funded from the transport budget hence it being on the long finger

I asked Limerick Council on twitter and the link road is to link up to the road the schools are on but there are plans to link it up with that roundabout out by the Co-Op

They've started work on the rugby museum. Does anyone know when it's due to open?
I've looked online for info on what it will look like but articles are from early 2018 so not sure if it still the same. Looks great though if it is.

That roundabout link at Quinn's Cross has been removed as an option but all the other junctions are in the plans, there is a right of way near to fenton's yard(since creation of Mungret college) where a new junction will be created but there is hopes that the roundabout up further can be used instead.
