    Hi all,

I Recently bought a SSD to find my MB only supports IDE and sata 3gb/s. Was looking at this on dabs.ie http://www.dabs.ie/products/asus-m5a97-le-r2-0-am3--amd-970-ddr3-atx-87T0.html?q=M5A97&src=16 seems to be good but what is confusing me is on the Asus website it stating that the board is windows 8 ready but when I look on the windows 8 ready page from Asus http://event.asus.com/mb/windows_8/#feature it talks about a fast boot option and not word of this model?
Click on the large grey square that says "AMD Platform" directly under the picture of the mobo. That motherboard is listed there.

Thanks but it says "On select models only", also the same with the directkey and can't seem to see it on the board. :confused:LD0001131231_2.jpg

you are aware that sata 6gb/s drives are backwards compatible with 3gb/s ports? and wouldn't hurt the performance much since ssd's are still miles above hdd's, also when a mobo or anything else states thats something is windows 8 ready, it's usually just a marketing ploy as long as your cpu, ram and gpu specs are the same or higher then the system recommendations and have enough sotrage space it should run it, also windows 8 is going to suck anyway so not too worried about it myself

Yep I have the SSD here running in the machine at the moment. As for Windows 8 I think Microsoft have gone mad will be sticking to 7. :p Would I see any improvements towards 6gb/s? Might change my mind and switch to this board http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme4/?cat=Specifications was blown away by the instant boot feature!

Here is a good article comparing SSD's on SATA2 and SATA3, and comparing with a HDD. Basically it says there is a 15-20% difference in the port speed, but the jump from HDD to SSD is so large that the speed difference is irrelevant.

Thanks for that they look about the same me thinks mines around 16 seconds past the BIOS, but anther problem, I also don't have AHCI so I can't get TRIM in 7.

Changed my mind again :P what do you think of this? Hoping to pick up the AMD FX 8120 so I need a board to run it http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/10430166/art/asus/m5a97-pro-am3-socket-amd.html
