After the embarrassment of the Euros, at least we can point to this success - our property affordability is increasing faster than anywhere else in the world. If only we could get food and fuel bills to fall too.

I wonder, will this affect the attitude of people in this country towards renting? Or are this two different issues at all?

People are renting cos they can,t get a mortgage ,
or else they think ,house prices still falling, why pay 150k now,
in a years time ,that house will be 120k or less.
For many people it makes financial sense to rent, especially if you are single.
its a law of economics, the country with the biggest boom, gets the biggest drop in prices.
The government has to borrow billions just to pay the civil servants ,teachers, nurses etc
ITS frightening to borrow 100k for a house ,if you think its gonna be
    worth 80k next year.

The lack of credit is probably the biggest factor at the moment, there are plenty of people ready to jump in with eyes wide shut, if they could only get the money.
