Moone Boy (Sky One)

Have seen adverts on this on Sky and must say it looks somewhat funny - Chris O' Dowd is brilliant and Steve Coogan seems to be in it too.
Sean (O'Dowd) is the imaginary friend of 10-year-old Martin Moone, the youngest child of a family living in a small town in Ireland. Martin has a unique perspective on life aided by an imaginary friend. His imagination comes into play both in his childish drawings, which come alive through animation, and in the ridiculous schemes he comes up with, against Sean's better judgement. With Sean's help, Martin negotiates life as the youngest in a chaotic, scatter-brained family.

It's on Sky One not Sky Atlantic.

Oh, I could have sworn I saw that it would be on Sky Atlantic. Never mind.

It's going to be shown on Sky One not Atlantic so it will most probably be muck!

Set in a small town in Ireland in 1989,
Moone Boy follows the antics of the youngest member of the Moone family, 11
year old Martin Moone (David Rawle). Martin has a unique perspective on life
aided by an imaginary friend, Sean Murphy, played by Chris O'Dowd. Martin's
imagination comes into play both in his childish drawings, which come alive
through animation, and in the ridiculous schemes he comes up with, against
Sean's better judgement. With Sean's help, Martin negotiates life as the
youngest in a chaotic, scatter-brained family helmed by Debra (Deirdre O’Kane)
and Liam (Peter McDonald). Johnny Vegas, Steve Coogan, Simon Delaney, Maeve
Higgins, Ruth McCabe, and Norma Sheahan also appear in the
    show.

Very good cast all round quite looking forward to it

Who's going to tune in tonight? Chris O'Dowd was on Newstalk for my drive home and I must say it does sound decent enough.

Not too impressed with it so far. I'll give the next one a go but me thinks I won't be watching it next week.

I've been thinking that but I tend to think most things are that, and I'm trying to work on my cynicism, so glad it's not just me

Ah its not that bad. Few genuinely funny bits few cringey bits swell but compared to something like Matty it looks like Flight of the conchords. Impressed with Coogans accent aswell

Just started watching it, seems pretty good. Had seen the ads and thought it looked terrible.

Coincidentally, Mary Robinson is being interviewed on the Late Late right now.

Hmmm just switched to this by accident and found it quite enjoyable. 2nd episode was the better one and Steve Coogan was brilliant!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,370 ✭✭✭✭Birneybau

Some of it was quite derivative, Grange Hill theme tune straight from "Spaced" but I thought overall it was pretty damn good. Steve Coogan was great, can do no wrong in my book anyway, thought the kid playing Martin Moone was really good.

    Yeah, will keep watching.

Excellent comedy. I really didn't expect it to be as good.

Only saw the first episode but I thought it was really good. I wouldn't call it unmissable TV but very much worth watching if you happen to be around when its on. I presume it will be repeated umpteen times so I can watch the second episode.

I remember the Mary campaign for real. Not too far off the mark. I'll be back for more next week. A pleasant surprise-I was expecting crap.
