You open the form of a saturday morning and there are about 50 races and close to a thousand horses.

You clearly dont have enough time to research every horse.

What is your process to narrow down the selections and is there anything specific you look out for?

i look for horses who were unlucky last time out and will usually have
a quick scan through the cards and a few horses will jump out the
page at me and fairly quickly if you watch a lot of racing....if you dont
then you shouldnt be backing horses
looking at the cards on sat can be a headache with so many of them.
Personally i also prefer to back horses in decent class races where
    most are at least trying

    picked 3 today for instance
havana gold (lumped on this last week but was a nr) as he horse
was about to win a listed race when the saddle slipped

thistle bird because the horse came very close to winning a much
    better race last time out

and royal empire at kempton which ran a stinker but looked good
    last time out
these three stuck in my head and sadly if royal empire had won id
probably wouldnt be here typing fairly sober
there was plenty more i liked but but that's a quick way to the poorhouse

my only downfall is not backing singles all the time
its the only way in my experience to make a few quid and now
i settle for a little win

I always look for horses who I remember from last time out who caught my eye or horses that I've been following for a while ( there are probably about 8 or 9 at any one time).

Another one I always look out for is a horse running in a maiden at a lesser track that has run in a maiden at Newmarket and ran relatively well. They're always seriously competitive. Sometimes certain jockey/trainer combinations, for example when Adrian Nicholls rides for Mark Johnston, rare as that may be
