    Hi guys!

As some of you may/may not know, I am the Games Coordinator for Eirtakon (November 9th - 11th) this year. For the first time, we're planning a retro gaming section. It's not going to be anything huge, probably just 2 consoles for the moment.

I'm hoping to run a retro fighting game tournament at some point over the weekend. So my question to ye is: If you could participate in a tournament in any fighting game on any retro console, what would it be?

My hope would be to run one of the games ye choose but I can't guarantee anything as it depends on availability of the game, the console and the cost. But fire away with the suggestions please! Thank you :)

    Tekken 3 on PS1 :D

I can bring a memory card with unlockable chars if needs to be.

EDIT: And a copy of the game.

As I say, depends on what we can get so feel free to suggest anything. Most likely it'll be some selection of SNES, Nintendo 64, PS1, Sega Mega Drive etc. etc. We want consoles and games that people don't get to play regularly any more.

Another vote for SFII hyperfighting, one of the best selling games in the universe, everyone remembers it, and you can play it on a modern console.

I think part of the point of it is that it's running on a retro console. Although I could be reading the OP wrong.

Depending on availability I'd be going:
Megadrive: SF2 (3 button pads. Press start for kicks bitches)
SNES: Killer Instinct is probably the best bet. Always a fun game and you just don't see it enough.
PS1/2: Go with Tekken. Everyone loves old school tekkens.
Saturn: Full of games but for name recognition I'd go with Alpha 2.
Dreamcast: Again chock full of choice but personally I'd go with CvS2. But again just for the name it could be better to go with 3S.
    Gamecube: Soul Calibur 2
Xbox: SF2 Anniversary edition. Let people go wild with characters.

That's the main consoles I can think of. I don't know how old you're going but if you can get something that runs IK+, it'd be awesome.

As an aside I don't know what a lot of these ports are like but I reckon they'd all do well enough for the con.

    If there's a c64 with IK+ I will sell a granny to play it...

    They're not retro!

SSF4 AE will be there anyway, don't worry.

Also, thanks for all the suggestions so far guys, really appreciate it :)

I think we've all forgotten the true king of retro fighting games

Samurai Shodown 2, a Neo Geo fighter that's on the Xbox Live Arcade. If there is an internet connection, I can provide the game.

Can't rely on an internet connection unfortunately.

As Orim pointed out, I'm looking for a game on a retro console rather than one available on a modern console/XBL/PSN.

Fatal Fury Special, Rage of the Dragons, any old KoF game?

Also like the sound of SF2HF, 3 votes.

Streets of rage 2 - versus mode
    Eternal Champions
    Mortal Kombat

    All Mega drive

Street Fighter II: HD Remix on X360, in "Classic" mode. That game will always be a sure winner. Can even switch the updated HD sprites to the old ones used before, as well as the music (I think). Its a vintage game that single handedly created fighting game scenes all around the world. To me, its a no brainer to have this as the retro game.

Right, sorry, didn't see this post. If you're looking for a retro console with a retro game. Street Fighter II: Champion Edition on the Mega Drive (or Genesis for your American folk). Another possible choice is Mortal Kombat II but I don't think that will be as popular as going with Street Fighter. If it was my personal choice though, I would choose Virtua Fighter 3TB on Dreamcast, the best console ever created :D

Would SFII (in whichever variation you may choose) not be better on Snes than Megadrive, due to the 6 button layout on Snes?

Basically yes, unless you're looking for the comedy factor of the button switching, or have 6 button pads available.

Needs a true classic like Breakers Revenge.

Or one of those Street Fighter Hyper Fighting yokes
