Just like Boyzone, Westlife etc. are not rated. They're just manufactured acts, aimed at a young audience, with brains not yet mature enough to know any better. Not my first choice for someone overrated but all the best ones have already been said.
I've never met anyone who likes his work but any attention he gets from the media ranges from blatant fawning on his alleged status as an elder sage of the Irish music scene, typically while simultaneously **** over his rebellious outsider credentials, to a non-judgemental description of his latest album or performance, that strenously avoids saying if it's any good instead relying on cop-out terms like "exciting", "brave" or "controversial". I assume all this results from his close ties with U2.
