The chips and the buger threads got me started on this, personally i think the best thing to go with chips is bread. You cant beat a chip sambo.

which one would you have when making the chip sambo.
for me it would be slicepan with plenty of butter on the bread, yum,yum.

I really miss the sliced pan bread. They were perfect for sandwiches.

I can't remember if BBQ sauce was readily available in Ireland, but you should try squeezing a little on some sliced white bread. Nom nom nom.

Luckily for me I started back workin last week and I work in a bakery so when I bring home either a slice pan or batch it's still warm so butter melts to it and then the chips go on
So pan or batch makes no odds

Ok. So in the north we call it plain or pan bread. And I can have either with the chips. However we call it a chip buttie up here and not a chip sandwich.

Then…there's this place in the town where I use to work…they had the best chips ever. So - they do their chip butties on baps, like burger baps. And me and my friend used to get them with fried onions and mayonnaise. Sooooo to die for. We started a craze with all our work colleagues. First class.

Oh. And. Chip butties need a glass of milk with them

Most pan breads in Ireland aren't very good - but they're a damn sight better than equivalents you get elsewhere. Also, we have other types of bread in Ireland too!

There are still bakeries in Ireland that make fresh bread but they have been on the decline in recent years. This decline would likely never happen as dramatically somewhere like France, where there are very real historical reasons for the quite revered place that bread holds at the table.

I used to love batch bread...hmm buttered heal dipped in soup.

Then I worked in a well known bakery and saw how the bread was....ahem.... played with. Especially on a night shift. Put me off for life.

So I'd like to say batch but I just can't!
