Indeed. Kilkenny needs to move further upmarket. This is a total downmarket step if it goes ahead.
We need to progress towards more exclusive dining/retail ideas for a space like this that will add value to the city, not crap like this. It really needs to be demolished and rebuilt in tune with the rest of the street accomodating perhaps one larger unit or a series of smaller ones.

Come on Kilkenny, we might knock various things on Boards, but this is just about the pits, some crackpot government depa\rtment dictating to the residents of Kilkenny what they want against the wishes ovf the people.
This is not democracy it is a bloody dictatorship.
We need to march but do something to let these faceless ones know, it is time to act responsibly.
Is it true, someone said brown paper has its own smell.
You either love our town and want to keep meieval or you don't, time to stand up and be counted.

Why do we need anything "exclusive"? Why would you want shops and eateries that exclude people?

Upmarket then. And because richer people tend to haver more money to spend and thus bring jobs. Something like this as planned will only bring trouble. High St is no place for this.

So we're beyond the point of hope that this might be a somewhat reputable venture that will in no way besmirch the reputation of our fine city and the image of our lovely High Street?

    If so, balls.

I think we'll have to keep hoping because there's not much else anybody can do about this. The decisions of an Bord Pleanala are final.

That's debatable. Plenty of people get rich off Irelands low corporate rate but send profits elsewhere.
I'd be far more interested in businesses that are sustainable.

Same as. Nothing to indicate that an amusment arcade will be anymore sustainable with added undesirability factor.

well done sky king, as said we no longer have a democracy, we do not want it, whatever it is going to be, though Kinsale used to have one. Perhaps they can shed some light on the effects on the town, or any one else with knowledge of these places, apart from Tramore, come to think about it I believe there is one in the middle of Dungarvan.
Seriosly it doesn't sound good and it would bother me that schoolchildren though not supposed to be there will be allowed to go in, who is going to supervise this aspect, no one I guess.
The escalator only works one way, the toilets appear locked away, though having an empty unit is not satisfactory or units, are we going to lower the standard of our city.
If our phil is giving all this money surely he can put a word in with enda to stop this tom foolery, it could be a complete waste of 5mill.
Perhaps we should do the same as the Scots:.....................

It would appear thatr most of you are quite happy with the amusement arcade as there is virtually no protest.
Come to the medieval gambling city folks, you can only lose yer shirt.

Wasn't tying two cats by their tails to the same rope to fight to the death a form of gambling in Kilkenny once?

Apparently so my friend, on reflection when in town I have used the cut through the arcade, though it is slightly unnerving for the lack of people.
If it was blocked off from the high st would it really matter, we might squeeze in a Hooter's branch.
    Take care
