Trying to trace book:- The Glorious History of the Dublin Grand Opera Society (1941-1998) by Gus Smith (Paperback)
Researching DGOS early to late 1950's
Are there any WebSites with this information?

The broadcaster john allen might be able to help you send me a PM I think i have his email address; otherwise write to him C/o lyricFM he pops up on Lyric from time to time. He has a wealth of knowledge about the GDOS, in fact i think he was in the chorus at one stage. He would deffo be my first port of call.

plus the book is listed for sale here: http://www.readireland.ie/booknews/booknews4/issue100.html a link I got from just googling it! you must have done this yourself in your search.

Have you tried your local library? If you are located in the Republic of Ireland you can order this book from Dublin City libraries. If you are in Dublin you can find it in the Music Library in the city centre.

BTW, the correct title of the book is Love and music, the glorious history of the Dublin Grand Opera Society (1941-1998).

    Thanks for the reply.
I do have access to one in my Library,
in the archive section. I can only read it
when I am in the Library
I would like to purchage one for my own use.
Many people have very kindly given me names
of Book Shops who deal in archive books.
They are all out of stock.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Can possibly help you with info on D.G.O.S, as my Dad was a chorister, and I 'carried a spear' for them many times over 25 years. They gave my Dad a great send-off when he died - sang Mozart's 'Ave Verum', and 'Panis Angelicus' with a leading baritone soloist. (The choir in the church were given the day off.) The D.G.O.S. was phenomenal: five operas in the Spring and three in the Winter!
