    Hello,

We recently moved in a appartment with a coin-operated electricity meter. We moved in 4 days ago, the 6th of September, and we noticed we already paid 10€ of electricity... more than 2€ a day. The appartment is heated by gas so our electricity bill doesn't even include the heating of the appartment.

We use the electricty for: light, computers (2), smartphones and cooking. Our appartment is 30 square meters. We only have 3 rooms: a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. We are a couple.

Is this it normal to pay that much?

I noticed that the meter is set up at 30cents/KWh.

If it is not normal, what can we do?

Many thanks to you all in advance,

Your paying to much. Is the bill in your name? Has the landlord agreed the terms taking the money and using it towards the bill etc?
The standard unit rate for electricity is currently 16.19c (18.38c incl. VAT). From October 1st it will increase by 0.8c to 16.99c (19.28c incl. VAT).

All our currently-applicable rates are visible in the Priceplan section of our website.

You are paying the correct amount for current rates considering you are not using gas for cooking or heating.

Electric Ireland are whacking up electricity prices by 5.9% from October 1st.

They are following in the footsteps of Bord Gais and whacking up gas by 8.5% after the CER gave Bord Gais an increase of 8.5%....even though Bord Gais asked for "7.5%" of an increase.

Are the CER independent and impartial or what are they playing at these days????

    OP:

That sounds like a private meter. You're being charged a premium by whoever owns it.
Maybe you could see if you can get a proper power account in your own name, then you could get normal rates.
