Lovely finish, had to watch it all the way onto his foot.

He's just gone and put a BEAUTIFUL cross onto Kevin Doyle's head for 3-0. Stunning.

Out of interest why does Trap let them play football in the friendlies when we all know it'll be back to hoof-ball anyway for whoever makes the grade tonight?

    What happened with the anthems?

I'd say McClean is getting somewhat worried with this Brady chap.

Our "fringe" team would hammer Traps prefered setup. It's depressing.

Crosses like that beg to be nodded in. Well done Robbie.

Would fancy McClean to grab a goal or two if he comes on for a decent amount of time.

Very enjoyable and refreshing to see Coleman, Meyler, McCarthy, Brady want to get the ball down and pass it.

Superb goal and assist from Brady. Nice to see Long & Doyle both on the scoresheet.

Westwood, Coleman, O'Shea, Dunne, Wilson, McGeady, McCarthy, Gibson, McClean, Long, Walters is probably our best 11, with good options like Meyler, Doyle, Clarke.... the future could be bright if we give these players a chance playing the right way.

I don't laugh out loud at many things in football matches, but 'Be Not Afraid' suddenly being chanted from the stands is one of them :D

They played an 80s soft rock version of the Omani anthem that even the Omani players didn't recognize and couldn't seem to turn it off so just hit mute, in the silence the Irish fans started to sing Amhrain na bhFiann just to get it over but half way through decided to sing 'Come on you boys in Green' instead. When they finished sing ANbhF the fans gave themselves a clap and then the real anthem started as the lads in charge of the PA finally got the right CD in, cue everyone (including players looking extra confused). After that the real Omani anthem finally came on, whish as some one else said wasn't a patch on the 80s version as it missed the guitar solo.

    Who's managing the 'fringe' team?

You can't even allow the Trap bashing to stop for one game. I find that depressing.

Instead of the Oman national anthem they played that cheesy FIFA tune the players walked out to again, only louder.

Then the Irish national anthem didn't start, so the fans started an a capella version.

Then as soon as the a capella version ended the real one started, so we had 2 versions of the Irish anthem.

    Then the Oman anthem.

    Cringey.

Don't think anyone is getting carried away just good to see us play some way decent for a change. I think we know what's coming when the Germans are in town barring a huge climbdown from Trap.

Why? If they play poorly he gets bashed and must accept total responsibility. If they play well he still gets bashed and is allowed absolutely none of the credit.

    It's a joke.

Its just nice to see us playing a bit of passing football. Coleman and Wilson are passing ball inside to mf's instead of lumping it like Ward and O'Shea do. Then again Meyler and McCarthy want the ball, unlike Whelan.

but why does he not let the players play to their strengths instead of trying to adopt a brand of puke negative football against rubbish teams?

Clearly you're not getting what people are getting at. His refusal to play these better players in the important matches is the problem. No point in playing good in these friendlys with the better choice players if we just hoof and pray for some luck in the proper games with lesser players.

He should get a little bit of credit for playing the team that he has, but nothing like the credit he would have got if he'd done it a long time ago. Unfortunately, as Ireland manager, he deserves a lot of the criticism he gets. This is the first friendly I can remember that he has tried anything like this, and only because clubs undoubtedly had a big say in who stayed in the squad.

Because it's all well and good playing well in a friendly where all of these players are going to be putting 110% into their performence on the off-chance that Trap might let them play 10 minutes in a competitive international.

He's going to go back to the same mundane, predictable horse-****e in the next competitive game with the same mundane, predictable, one-dimensional players. That's why he's getting a bashing here and that's why he deserves it. Playing like this in a friendly is going to give us, at best, false hope that he wants to change the way we play. Come the competitive games it's going to be as it's always been. Until he starts turning these friendly performences into our competitive games (at least against the minnows of the group for Christ's sake), then he's going to be bashed no matter what he does in friendlies, and quite rightly too in my opinion.
