Better that the likes of Pearce are eased into games like this than competitive games.

Why Wilson off?? Really wanted to see him get 90 mins. Seems Trap doesn't fancy him at lb at all, so it'll be Ward :(

England (Cleverly) missed a sitter about 5 mins ago and Ukraine have just scored a beautiful, beautiful goal - 0-1 Ukraine (38 mins)

Can only see the Youtube videos as don't have Setanta or feed but I just hope we don't go back to playing the old team in next match.

Our A team lacks confidence especially after the Euro's with the manager and the press telling them they aren't good enough to take on decent teams.

However, that isn't good enough, as a country, I believe we have 11 players that can at least pull a draw out of a game that they are expected to lose. We have that much talent in the country at least and that is really all the fans expect is a brave performance against a team that nobody gave them a chance against.

The players that we usually play seem to lack enthusiasm and part of that is confidence and part of it is that they feel their positions are safe IMO as they play traps system.

Needs to inject new life into the team by bringing these new players into the team in a competitive match. Now that he is on the ropes career wise, we might see this. However, there is the flip side of that coin where he if he mixes it up and it goes wrong, he'll be out on his rear.

However, he plays the existing team, we are almost guaranteed to lose and he'll be out on his rear then too...

When we play poorly against teams we're expected to beat there are calls for him to be sacked. When we play well against teams we're expected to beat, the performance is ignored and he gets no credit.

When he doesn't play 'fringe' players in friendlies he is bashed. When he plays them, he is still bashed because the Mystic Megs reckon he won't play them in the competitive games.

Just admit many of you are more interested in bashing the chap than supporting your country. The pathetic hypocrisy of it all is that if he HAD been sacked and Mick McCarthy was now in charge of this game, you'd all be harping on whimsically about the dawn of a new era and how wonderful it all was.

It's the same old, tired whingeing whining Irish begrudgery which, if it was an international sport, would see us as multi-time world champs.

He gets bashed because the vast majority of these "fringe" players shouldn't even be fringe players.

Seamus Coleman, Marc Wilson, James McCarthy, David Meyler, James McClean and Shane Long should be in our strongest XI. He'll give them a chance to impress in these friendlies and no matter what these players do, back into the team will come Robbie Keane, Simon Cox, Glenn Whelan, Keith Andrews and Stephen Ward.

You have absolutely zero basis for an argument supporting Trap here. Zero. You've refused to answer any of the points directly and you're going through the exact same points you have already. This then leads to other people going through their points again and...voila! We're going around and around in circles.

It's just as tiresome trying to explain this as the constant Trap bashing is to you. You're not taking any of the points on board.

If Trap transferred some of these players and the style we're playing tonight even at least against the Faroe Islands or the Kazakhstan's then he'd have far, far less critics. Fact of the matter is, though, he doesn't and he won't and all of the constant false hope he gives the Irish fans when a friendly comes around with an experimental team, he just goes back. It's bloody tiring and I, like most of the Irish fans, am sick of it.

To be honest, I don't remember us playing 'well' in a lot of those friendlies that people supposedly ignored. We went on a long unbeaten run, which he got credit for, but didn't really put in a whole lot of great performances.

No need for Mystic Meg by the way, he hasn't played those players in competitive games so no idea what point you're trying to make there. Ah the usual wheeling out of the Irish 'begrudgery' line, it seems to never get old. Once Irish people criticise anything its brought out. We're certainly not gonna be any sort of 'champs' under Trap.

But sure we qualified.....that's all that mattered right.

Jesus it's hardly worth replying because you're simply not getting it! But I'll try to break it down a bit more.

This friendly and the last, we've played fringe players who are clearly instructed not to focus on hoofing it, but attempt to play some football. Nobody is denying Trap any credit when he picks the form and logical players and instructs the team to play in this fashion.

The frustration comes from the fact that he will ONLY do this in friendly games. Against one of the weakest teams in the group, he reverted to the same old same old. He has NO intention of doing anything else but hoof and play the same old ordinary players against Germany next month and probably the rest of the qualifying games.

Nobody is bashing Trap for winning this game and playing the style we are, we're just pre-bashing for the Germany game.

The idea you see the need to "pre bash" at all is in itself lsughable. Pre bashing indeed!!!

I for one want our tried and tested players in the tesm for Germany.

Really, because Coleman just ran the length of the pitch and turned defence into attack in seconds, nearly leading to a goal.

The "tried and tested players" would have booted it out over the stand.

I think that's the point, the tested players have been mostly the same. No doubt that's what he'll do. We need a huge, huge improvement from these tried and tested players in the Germany match.
