    Ohhh Man!!!

You were just waiting to use that one.

I for one want our tried and tested players in the tesm for Germany.

Really, because Coleman just ran the length of the pitch and turned defence into attack in seconds, nearly leading to a goal.

The "tried and tested players" would have booted it out over the stand.
Yes make him first choice based on a good dribble vs Oman.

Why is Andy Keogh still left on??

Sweden 1-0 Kazakstan 85 mins gone
Austria 1-2 Germany 81 mins gone

The Kazaks could be the surprise package of the group (ie not your usual cannon fodder!).

    Nice one 4-1 Pearce

    Pearce with the 4th!

Austria doing their all here to get this equalizer - they'll cause us serious problems, beautiful passing & very good attacking play in general.

    85' Austria 1-2 Germany

well the fourth really makes up for the Oman goal. Nice to see it

I wonder is there an element of local rivalry there, same as how Ireland would raise their game against England

Game set and match! I hope Trap was paying attention - that is how you defeat weaker opposition.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,220 ✭✭✭the realpigiron

I know the opposition are cat, but there's some good young players becoming available to Ireland. I hope Trap makes the most of them and uses some of them in the qualification campaign

Lads you've missed the worst miss of the century from Austria. OMFG it was horrendous.

    Just what I was thinking . Agreed . .

Kinda like no matter how muck Liverpool are, they always raise their game for united and look like world beaters !

Only complete tools thought they'd be cannon fodder to be honest.

Liechstenstein, Andorra and San Marino are the only complete no-hopers in europe, all the other 'minnows' are coached and organised well enough to be able to get a result against the Pot2 and Pot3 teams. Consistently getting six or seven such results in a group is all whats beyond them.

There is yes but Austria can play, they can also miss open goals too though unfortunately.

Bad miss by Keogh, he didn't know he was offside. Great play by McGeady to set him up.

Example of what can happen when blooding talented but inexperienced youngsters in these games.

Every one of the players Coleman named for us tonight has 10+ caps except Adam Matthews. Our biggest problem is Chris Coleman himself, who compared to Speed looks like Staunton. He's simply awful as a manager. Under Speed we could have won this game - we played so much better.

We were always going to not qualify anyway. Croatia, Belgium, Serbia are all simply superior. As such, playing experienced players, by and large, makes no sense because our experienced players, Bellamy, Williams, Vaughan, Ricketts and Hennessey aside, are awful. How the likes of James Collins and Robert Earnshaw are getting in the squad beggars belief.

What this means is we have to play the less experienced players who are already ahead of Collins et al in terms of ability. Considering we aren't going to qualify from this group in a million years it makes much more sense to blood the youngsters now and get them used to each other to give us a better crack at the whip at Euro 2016. Combined with our higher ranking that should but us in a higher pot for the draw next time round, and I don't think qualification will be an unrealistic aim.

I'd like Coleman to continue Speed's work and create a settled XI though this campaign ready for the next one.

    Something like

    Hennessey
    Matthews/Gunter - Blake - Williams - Taylor
    Robson-Kanu - Allen - Vaughan - Ramsey - Bale
    Vokes/Church

If that XI was comfortable in 2016 nad we were at France, I'd be delighted.

all he had to do was chip it over the keeper from two yards yet he managed to put it wide...

Wales 6-1 down, England still losing, Scotland 1-1 with Macedonia and the North 1-0 on Luxembourg.

Are people forgetting that on the very odd occasion the players have actually played well in the last few years, Trap has got all the credit? France away was an example, where the players performed well despite his system, and he got all the credit for nearly getting us to the WC.

It was the same when we got Euro Qualification, even though anything less than finishing ahead of an imploding Slovakia, and beating Estonia, would've been a complete and utter disaster.

Now it has come full circle, and instead of getting the credit when we do well, he's not going to get any. Well that's what happens when people finally cotton on that in your old age, you've become a stubborn lazy manager who doesn't put in the effort to go watch players, who refuses to change his system and the players in it, who does his best to alienate some of the limited young talent we have coming through, and who continuously burns bridges with some of the players.

Why did Trap play regulars like Cox and McGeady? It now looks that Cox has picked up an injury which could have been avoided by resting him for a meaningless friendly. Sean O'Driscoll will not be pleased.

Yet another unanswerable question in the book of Trap.

the same could be said for any of the players - if they got injured.

Stupid playing regulars in case they get injured.
Stupid playing non-regulars when you are just going to revert to the normal 11 in competitive games.

    Thread is an education.

this result on top of the u21 4-2 win in italy gives a little bit of hope after the depression of the kazkhstan game

I backed Germany and watched the second half of the Germany game. They were very lucky to get a win i cant see us beating Austria out their. They were the better team and very impressive.

The Austrians will murder us if we dont improve drastically. I cant see us finishing anywhere other than 4th in the group the way things are going unfortunately.

Meyler, Coleman , Brady and Long were very good tonight.

Overall it just goes to show that anything is better than the hit and hope tactics which we used last Friday.
