Asthma Doctor - Dublin City Centre

    Morning All,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend an asthma doctor in or around Dublin city centre.

I've never had problems with asthma before but I've been living abroad for the past two years and the pollution levels in the city caused some asthmatic symptoms (breathing problems, wheezing, etc...).

My local doctor is a bit of a cowboy so I'm looking for a specialist who can give me some advice on how to deal with the problem (if the doctor could be cheap it would also be great).

    Thanks in advance,
    Jack.

The medical centre on O'Connell St (above the pharmacy beside Ulster Bank) had a breathing specialist a few years ago. I met her once but having had asthma for 25 years she wasn't able to tell me anything new. Might still be worth a visit though.

The usual way to go about this is to see your local GP, discuss your problem & then they will refer you to a specialist if they feel that it is needed.

I would think this is the normal route. A lot of specialists won't see you without a referral letter from a GP.

I presume there could be some GPs who specialised in respiratory ailments before becoming GPs but I don't know if they'd advertise that, would they?

    Thanks for the help guys.

I've been to my local GP and he offered me a referral to see a specialist. The problem is that I'm leaving to live for Asia in 2 weeks time and don't have enough time for the referral to come through, so I was hoping to get some advice privately. Bit too expensive though - €100 + €50 for Spirometry and consultation.

The best bet is probably to get a year's worth of inhalers and see how I get on.

    Thanks for your time.
    Jack
