Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ah no, sure we've already ruined your season, can't go ruining your managerial hunt too. Take Matthews as a symbol of our sympathy over how your season has progressed.

    shortlist from rovers fans.

    /wow

Staunton would be my choice or Jeff kenna.

Ahahahahaha!!! Brilliant list!! They're good for a laugh when they're not chasing down opposing fans at the Luas stop.

Ruud Gullit!! That really is top notch! I'm sure though that was suggested by the blow ins who don't bother going to the games anymore after the initial rush of the new stadium!

Brian Laws expected to take over for the rest of the season

    http://www.extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/8934/brian-to-lay-down-the-law-at-tallaght/
Brian Laws is expected to be announced as Shamrock Rovers' temporary Director of Football later today.

Reports this morning suggest the former Scunthorpe, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley manager will be given a six week contract to salvage something from the Hoops' dwindling season.

Manager Stephen Kenny was sacked last week, with his assistant Stephen Glass taking control in last Friday's FAI Cup defeat at Shelbourne.

Thirteen points behind current leaders Sligo Rovers with six games to play, the Tallaght side have all but relinquished their league title.

They are, however, in the final of the EA Sports Cup this Saturday and Laws could even meet the media tomorrow with a pre-match press conference scheduled.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

You can just picture the meeting at Tallaght HQ

    'So.....who else has managed Scunthorpe?'

Heard that there's nothing at all in the Brian Laws stuff and that Jim Magilton won't be approached either.

Jim Magilton doesn't want to get involved. He said it on Twitter.

Bit of a waste of money having Brian Laws there til the end of the season. Assume if hes signed it'll be until the end of next year.

Isn't he that guy, who was with Nottingham Forest? Or do I mix something up there?

Not if he gets them into Europe.

Think he's just there until the end of the season.

Brian Laws will be funny if it's true.

Don't understand why Rovers don't take a chance on a young, lower league manager like they did with O'Neill.

Shows what I know. Brian Laws will be the new Director of Football at Rovers, and will see out the season as Caretaker Manager also.

    A DOF in the LOI?

Where are Shamrock getting the money for that?

Cant call him the manager whilst Kenny is on "gardening leave". As they would have to pay him in full normal stuff when managers sacked.

He'll have to somehow stop Pats or Drogheda from winning the cup so.

Maybe he'll throw chicken wings at them.

Eh, it's in their interests that one of those sides win the cup.

    DoF....very clever move.

Meh, it's only 6 games and then we'll see what happens. Too short of a time to make a difference. Good appointment from what I've seen but as with all "managers" his bond with the team is down to luck more than anything else.

Also, whoever made the comment about how we're getting money for this crazy new DoF position... It's the same as if we appointed a new manager :S No idea how you thought it made a difference.

He hasn't played a game for them since he signed in 2010, he may well be right, about Laws, but he may also be a disgruntled bench warmer.

Laws doesn't even know who he is managing. He referred to his new employers as Shelbourne. He also constantly referred to them as Shamrock. :D

Laws made his name as a player under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest. That's where the 'Nottingham link' is.

Interesting that Brian Laws has been given the title of interim Director of Football rather than interim Manager.

Is Kenny still techinally manager till he's paid off?

That's my understanding of it anyway - that he's on paid 'gardening leave' until he gets another job, so he won't have to be paid up in full on the contract.

Isn't Devlin a 'director of football' at Bray as well? was there a similar situation there?

Interesting part of that is if he gets a job managing some under 12s team for 50 quid a week. Rovers have to pay the balance of his wages until his contract is up with them.

Or they can agree a settlement.

Grand give him the Shels job on minimum wage so and let Rovers pay the rest.

I thought that was because he is an agent and it was a conflict of interest for him to hold a manager role.

More interesting is the word 'interim'. Let's say, they fail to win the match on Saturday and fail to qualify for Europe, in this case, they look for someone else, because he is only 'interim'?

Can't be cheap for Rovers having to pay Stephen Kenny is 100k a year and whatever crazy amount Laws is on, can't be coming cheap.

Winning on Saturday doesn't qualify you for Europe.

    Seat paying his wages?

Laws needs us to win the cup or Derry to win and still be banned from Europe. Which afaik they wont be. Altho 6 league wins should see him catch us or drogs in the league.

I know that, but don't you have to finish at least third in the table to qualify for Europe?

It's three years of accounts needed so New Derry City should be all right for next year in Europe if they win the cup.

Anyway if Derry win the cup and are still barred, the European place would go to Dundalk. ;)

Nope, but from a cash-flow point of view, it's a lot easier than writing a cheque for €200,000! Laws is probably on plenty, though he may have accepted a bit less to be in the public eye while his book is out and he looks across the water for work. In any case, it's a seven-week deal.

Not saying this won't affect the club finances, but Rovers are well-supported and well-funded. If any club can weather that expense and still pay a competitive squad, it's probably the hoops.

Most definitely, it's handy when they pay 10% of their tax bill sure...

Derry folded and set up a new club, so they have to wait till they can play in Europe for a set number of years.

I feel a bit stupid now, but weren't they in the 1st tier all the time? And if you set up a new club, don't you have to start in a quite low division?

    (sorry for de-railing the thread)

Nope, they played in, and won, the First Division 2 seasons ago, the season before Shels came up.
