Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If you have any other photo ID you should be ok.

If I go to the passport office on Monday should I get it sorted?

Why did you send your passport to England?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,199 ✭✭✭Shryke

You don't need a passport for Ireland to England.

Emergency passports can be knocked out in a day or so...cost is €110 though according to the passport.ie website! Ouch!!

You need a passport, a protocol brought in by the airlines and not anything to do with border control law. The ferries don't insist on a passport.

Do this, sometimes the obvious thing to do is the correct thing to do.

Explain your situation and stay until it's sorted. They are normally a decent bunch and are familiar to last minute emergency's

You do if you're flying with Ryanair. Aer Lingus will accept valid driving licence if you're an Irish citizen flying to the UK.

AFAIK you can fly with Aer Lingus with a valid drivers licence.

    Although, this may have changed.

I had an emergency a number of years ago that I had to go abroad for.
Passport out of date and it would have taken a day to do a new one.
So the lady in the passport office did a temporary one for me that day(had to hand around for several hours, but hey!)

Also forgot to add, if you go into the office bring you travel details with you ie boarding pass ie proof of immediate travel)

I always assumed people are supposed to know how to do their jobs no?

It's a looooong time since it's been anywhere near €35 for an adult passport and in fairness It's easy enough to look up.

Ah give them a break, they asked for a service and were charged.

I find this hard to believe. They do it so often they would hardly make a mistake plus it says it on the form. Go to the passport office and they will sort you. I know of a few people who were caught out and got sorted last minute.

Your passport is likely printed and made, but you just have to pay the rest of the money for it.

I checked it out a few weeks ago, they still accept the licence.

Yeah it says it on the form you have to fill in. I think its 88 if you want an express passport.

Put the required money in the envelope, and climb in with it. Get a mate to lick the outside and seal it. Hop down the post office and post it. You may want to bring a power bar.

When the letter is opened (be careful of those letter opening knives), jump out and grab your passport.

A snail on the move would look like a blur compared to the people in the passport office. It's a feckin good job they never got the Book of Kells job.

    They did - that's why there's only 1 copy.

Just curious about this... only if you're an Irish citizen?

I'm sure if you're an EU citizen or do otherwise not require a Visa for the UK, but have an Irish DL, they can't make these arbitrary distinctions, can they?

You don't need a passport to go to a wedding, that's just ridiculous. You do however need marriage licence to prove your married. The two things are completely unrelated and shouldn't be mixed up.

While you're at it, just get them to post you to England. Job done! May want to bring a second power bar though.
