Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If Ireland could print significant figures on notes just like we print our own symbols on coins, whom would you pick?

    €5 - Michael Collins
    €10 - James Joyce
    €20 - Daniel O'Connell
    €50 - Douglas Hyde
    €100 - Charles Stuart Parnell
    €200 - Jim Larkin
    €500 - John Hume

i hate the way our euro coins are so boring on the back. its just the harp. other countries have different designs and we could do the same with some some of the faces mentioned above. like spain

    On a side note,

Ever notice how boring and inspiring the € banknotes are? They're just awful. I know it was difficult to have designs that would be acceptable to all but they just seem so drab and dull to me..very much like the EU i suppose.

I say forget about new notes, they will be worthless anyway. Just issue everyone with a lasercard and have a cashless society. That would piss off the tax dodgers, the crims and the social welfare fraudsters.

So just put a picture of big brother or a pair of eyes on the card.

Seriously are we near a cashless society, I think it is coming whether we want it or not.

I honestly thought this thread was going to be about the cash figures you'd sometimes see written at the edge of a banknote:o

I remember during the boom, you'd often see the figures €1500 or €1700 written on the note and I always assumed it was written by some fella preparing cash in hand wages, maybe I'm wrong and it was for some other purpose?

You'd rarely see it nowadays, and if you do it'd more likely be €350 or €400 written on the note!

I second the idea of having different animals on things like the old coins.
It's more interesting and less pretentious than old, dead politicians or buildings.

True. They couldn't agree on who to put on. I don't know why, they had so much to choose from. I wouldn't object to a note series without Irish representation, here's one:

    5 - Plato
    10 - Van Gogh
    20 - Mozart
    50 - Caesar
    100 - Picasso
    200 - Napoleon
    500 - Einstein

Who would want Benjamins when you could have Einsteins?

I think there was some debate in Sweden about putting either Zlatan Ibrahimovic or some famous author on a bank note.

Sir Alex Ferguson should be on the €50 note.

It wouldn't upset Liverpool fans either, as they never have any of these.

I wouldn't dream of trying to give a value to each of the sections.
    In no particular order.

Sports and Media: Galway rugby player,Radio Broadcaster and Journalist: William 'Lord Haw Haw'Joyce.
[The decision will be controversial no matter which Media Whore is picked, might as well be hung for a sheep as shot by a firing squad]

Fine Art: Self-portrait of Francis Bacon Francis+Bacon+-+Portrait+of+Lucian+Freud+1965.jpg

Industry: Titanic (or a mistaken photo of the Olympia).

Sprituality: A blank space. (spirituality was helped by the now-you-see-her-now-you-don't image of Lady Lavery. 'Security' in more ways than one). In this non-decision making modern times, the non-decision of individual choice will win out.
