    Hey all

    Anyone know of a good cheap dentist? Waiting for medical card at the moment, and really need to see dentist. Only problem is I cannot afford it. Anyone any advice? Does any dentist accept a payement plan or anything?

    Try the dental hospital up in CUH. It will be students, but they are supervised properly, and the prices are very low. It just covers materials as far as I remember.

    Their website would suggest that with the €100 deposit and rates approx half that for most services but MORE expensive than a commercial dentist if the supervisor has to assist.

    It'll cost you approx €90 for check-up and one extraction.

    Medical Card has very limited services available, emergency extractions is about it.

    Before I got my own medical card, my dentist offered to do a free filling as it was necessary and I did not have another €90 to give him.

    I've gone to the the Ardfallan Medical Centre in recent times

    Not sure what you mean here. What deposit? I didn't pay a deposit when I was seen there.. granted I was a student myself, so that's a while ago. :) Have things changed?

    A filling is listed as 10 euro for example, and an extraction as 30. I don't see any mention of a deposit.

    If there is more complicated work needed, then it will cost more, but this is true in a private dental surgery as well surely?

    The PDF price list has a €100 retainer.

    Also the 'drop in public' centre is not offered now except as an emergency drop in.

    I've not checked their prices further as I saw it last March it was €110 as a first time visitor, then €10 as per price list etc. The fees for the supervisor could be added which matched commercial dentists.

    For that reason my €90 commercial fee did not seem out of place and I would not have students ~ I'd be an especially sensitive patient to boot.

    I was considering it as I have more work to do so the price list was attractive [after the initial retainer] if I did not need the specialist attention ~ however, from my experience of several dentists over many years, they all had difficulty with me so that weighed in my decision.

    Ahhhh, I skimmed over that and thought the retainer was an ortho retainer. Guess not!
