Masters of Money BBC 2

I know that people will say ths belongs in the economics or tv fora, but considering the amount of discussion on the philosophies of Keynes and Hayek over the past few years, and how they might apply to our own situation, both nationally and globally, I thought it might be of interest to people to note that a new series starts tonight (now) on BBC 2 which examines the work and legacies of both economists, and of Marx. It's a three part series, called Masters of Money, and is on right now.

ludwig von mises would have been more interesting for me on the Austrian economics school

at least they are showing 3 different options that could be used to solve the present economic problems.

Hayek later tonight. Will the BBC be biased here and demonise him? They were very fair on Keynes I thought, but that was to be expected. I look forward to this program tonight but I doubt for example. they will illustrate how the Austrian Business Cycle theory predicted this depression in a similar manner how Hayek predicted the Great Depression of the 1930s.

I won't hold my breadth, but fingers crossed!

I recently watched The Age of Uncertainty by John Kenneth Galbraith, which was similar to this in that it covered some of the big names in economics; it was extremely good/interesting, so recommend people hunt that down and give it a look (because of how old it is, it's unfortunately unavailable other than through torrents and the like).

JKG's take on things is very interesting/illuminating altogether, and there's a good bit to learn from the program; he's got a decent wit that takes the edge off the general topic as well, which helps (can skip the last three 'Weekend in Vermont' episodes though)

in the video on Friedrich Hayek they failed to mention the work of ludwig von mises who Hayek worked with in Austria. They attributed some of ideas to ludwig von mises to Friedrich Hayek.
Milton Friedman did not say that government could use money to control the economy.
Friedman also said there was no need for central banks.

I remember seeing that on TV in the 1970s.
In those day TV was will a long in depth series on economics.

not long after this Milton Friedman free to choose came out.

That is a big contract to 3 one hour programs on different economists

The Age of Uncertainty was 15 episodes on one economist

Free to Choose was 10 episodes on one economist.

Heh, yes he packs plenty of small witticisms into the series, and the manner he approaches a lot of the topics makes what could potentially be a very dry subject, into something much more enjoyable/humorous to watch.
