Lucky to get out that with an advantage, we seriously need to move the ball quicker as we were going from side to side all night. Only for Bale we would have been in trouble in this tie.

Totally agree, still don't understand why we keep playing Parker further up field than Dembele. Does AVB think Parker doesn't have enough energy to fill the Sandro role?

Holtby has a far neater touch and should start ahead of Dempsey in the 2nd leg. Bale is a winger, let him drift in when opportunity knocks but keep him on the left.

We were poor enough in that 2nd half, some of our players were completely out of the game, have to say I wasn't expecting that finish in the 93rd minute though, brilliant goals from Bale.

At half time last night we were in control of the game and it got me thinking - when was the last time the opposition properly controlled a game against us?

Sure we have had teams dominate small periods of the game and of course there have been those very frustrating games that we lost/drew when we should scored half a dozen goals and did not) but its great to see us impose our game on just about every team we played this season.

I can only think of Arsenal after Ade was sent off and the 2nd half at O.T.

Well possession is one of the key points of AVB's system, and its something we tend to do very well. Out problem is how often we squander that possession. It's so bloody frustrating seeing us control games so much, and have so many chances, and still only just barely win games.

Missed the game on account of training but was listening to the radio for Bale's second free kick :D What were Lyon like generally? And what do you guys reckon the chances of progression are from this tie?

Bit worried about that goal stat (Bale has scored our last 6 goals in all comps). I would like to see goals coming from others. If Bale keeps up his current form and we don't finish inside the top 4 the media will have a frenzy with transfer rumours from May to September :'(

Gonna be tough but we should be well prepared/rested.. Hopefully the away goal doesn't cost us, they have to score so we will probably setup very counter attacking...

Spot on. We should be well rested and nice and fresh between now and the end of the season as we have had nice gaps between games recently so tiredness won't be an excuse if we don't get what we want from the season.

Bordeaux have been on a slump.

Lyon rested players by the way. Half the team Spurs played didn't play.

Will miss this match as I'll be in the air flying home. Last time that happened Spurs lost 2-1 to two late goals from Everton.

Last time I was flying during an important spurs game it was the chelsea CL final game. The pilot came on the intercom and announced the result o the whole plane, most of whom cheered. while I cursed like a drunkin scotsman.

    Not true http://www.soccerway.com/matches/2013/02/17/france/ligue-1/fc-girondins-de-bordeaux/olympique-lyonnais/1286258/
And in any case would that not be worse for us?

I was at the game and I can tell you now that both teams were shocking.

Lyon were 1-0 up at half time thanks to an absolute gift from the bordeaux defence and then bordeaux make 2 ridiculous half time subs. They did score 2 screamers mind but I think they only had 5/6 shots the whole match.

There is definitely goals against them.

I wonder if Levy will reimburse the expenses for my scouting:pac:

You on Mr Levys payroll ?

He made me an offer at the start of the season but typical to him it was well under my agents evaluation. He was offering some sort of work for potatoes deal. I do love a spud but when he wouldnt throw desserts into the deal we walked away

We then got a call from Ukraine and took the offer. I was actually there yesterday on official Dynamo Kiev business scouting for their Europa campaign

Lyon's goal against us was a screamer and a bit of a 1 in a million chance if you ask me.

Yes, it lifted them and they were good for 15-20 minutes afterwards but if it hadn't been for that goal we would have won 2-nil comfortably.

I think we will go there and control the away leg too. As long as we dont do anything daft like give away an early own goal, peno or get a red card, we should be fine.

Do you know, I can't remember what article I read but it didn't show a team sheet and said Gomis and Lisandro were rested with two youth players up front. Steed and another guy (can't remember his name) who pull the strings for them rested too.. Don't ask me what article I read.

And also I wasn't saying that was a good thing ofcourse its not a good thing resting players...

But Bordeaux are not as good this season as they once were. We still have had a full week to recover they don't.

I doubt the pilot will announce the Lyon/Spurs result. I think I'll be in Dubai just after the game ends so I should be able to get the result then! Atleast I hope I won't be awaiting another 8 hours... realised 5 mins after booking what I had done..
