Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

From my first look I think Val is lucky not to be booked?

    Will have to watch again

No it looked a defo pen.

But if ref ain't gonna give it surely he should book for (apparent) simulation? Good to see assistants behind goal doing their job as ever :p

Maybe if Valencia wasnt trying to do his best starfish by spreading his legs as much as possible it might actually look like he is caught to the ref.

I hope the "United get all the decisions at OT" brigade are watching tonight...

It didn't even make sense for someone to dive there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,656 ✭✭✭cgpg5

What the hell was that though? He just dived straight in!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

How is that a pen? Did he untie his laces?

It's another dive and quite frankly I am absolute sick of seeing them.

Yeah it was Vals fault there. Yeah.

    Great ball from Nani

not a pen or a dive. ref just thinks it was a great tackle despite not getting the ball.

    Nice pass from Nani.

Nani has been miles better since the penalty miss. Keep it up.

Chico, if that was two seasons ago!!

Great pass by Nani, credit where its due!

Oh Unlucky Chico, done everything right there

Unexpected? He is a striker, its his job to expect it

The ball was played to where he could very easily have hit it first time with his left foot, which is his strongest foot. It would have been a poorer ball for a right footed player but cant see what was wrong with it for RVP.

well as you said yourself at the time

Played in by an unselfish Nani (who I thought was gonna shoot actually)
no one expects Nani to pass.

Another cast iron peno decision muffed...thank god for those goal line statues.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

Nani has created around 3-4 clear goal scoring chances and still people abuse him for mispasses or losing possession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

All fine and well saying that but that sort of attitude is what left us in the Europa League last season, should be at least competent at retaining the ball and controlling the game.

That sort of attitude got us through many groups and into 3 finals while being able to rest players early season . .

I think every top team aims to peak end of feb - march for the CL . . For big clubs the groups are about nothing more then qualifying, performances count for little . .

How many times have we listened to RTE pundits hammer English clubs early season (United, chelsea, even Arsenal), only for them to get to finals and in some cases win them ?

I wouldnt say Barca fans are ruling out their chances in the CL because they are having trouble finishing off Spartak at home . .

XD this is comical now. This ref is dreadful.

Nani been very tidy since the miss, responding very well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

1000 penalties! :P Don't think i've ever see so many fouls in the box!

That was another one. Evans didn't get the ball.

Its fairly evened itself out though.

    another pen for Gala

Evans clearly got the ball, no?

Ah, but you see, I am sitting on my couch watching the game

Van Persie is standing in the box playing the game, why bother getting into position if you dont expect the ball to maybe come your way

Just like last season. A bright ten minutes followed by retreating into the shell, losing midfield and hoping to hang on. Braga will beat us at OT on this performance

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

    Dire

    Absolutely dire performance.

3 points, clean sheet and more game time for people who need it, the return of Fletch etc, draw a line and move on I think

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,193 ✭✭✭✭Kerrydude1981

Could have been about 6 penos today!

Been a while since I watched a game with so many penalty incidents
Three points in the bag, piss poor performance.

Ah so you want to have your cake and eat it too. Fair enough.
Why did Nani bother to take the peno if was going to do *whatever that was*.

Over to RTE now...cant take Quinn anymore.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Quandary

    Phew!

Even though he was very understandably rusty, I thought Fletcher made us look more solid in the middle.

Poor enough performance for large portions of the match but still, 3 points

    Thank god we won that.

RVP was anonymous. Nani had a good moment or but had a very bad game over all, and the penalty miss was atrocious. Our midfield wasn't supplying the wings, meaning Kagawa and Valencia were having to do too much themselves.

I fear for the Liverpool game at the weekend.

Don't bother. Giles just said that he "can't remember Nani doing anything of note" in all of the time he has been at United.

You genuinely dont get the concept of what a striker is supposed to do on the pitch? Fair enough

    Im out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

    Right, summary time.

That was bollox. How rusty can a team look 4 weeks into a season? Van Persie, Valencia, Hernandez all look like they have come back after 6 months out. Nani was woeful until he missed the pen ironically, was good after. Evra was much better. Delighted to see Fletch back.

Michael Carrick was brilliant and by far the man of the match. Shinji played some beautiful stuff also. David De Gea gives another example of why he needs to be #1 end of, he makes saves he has absolutely no right to make, and almost always with the game teetering in the balance.

If we play like that on Sunday the Scoucers will be more than happy to give us a wake up call.

Honestly, we just look so... Sh!t, for lack of a better word. We're getting wins but there is so little consistency and absolutely no cohesion. Worrying.

I'd say it was the other way. Nani had two particularly bad moments but was generally good throughout the game.

Was just about to post the same thing . .

Wonder if Barca looked like CL winners in their 3-2 win tonight ? If Rooney bails United out like Messi did for Barca tonight, people would be going on how much United are useless without Rooney , blah blah blah . .

Not defending Uniteds performance, just putting it into context in comparison with other rivals, none of whom have looked like world beaters on opening day . . (Bayern, Chelsea, Barca, Madrid) .
