Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've just discovered to my astonishment that my very unionist great-uncle was jailed in Mountjoy at some stage in 1916. Only way I can look at it is through a paywall - anyone know if there's a free way into the Joy's records, as I don't want to pay just for that?

That's actually where I found him first, lottpaul, but the other site lets you see the original document. The bored Mormons who transcribed the familysearch.org documents sometimes got names drastically wrong or left out essential information - though it's a wonderful resource.

Findmypast.ie have Irish prison registers. I have a subscription with them at the moment so if you want to give me his details I can see do they have it, if you like :)

    Hi Alicat,

I wonder if I might take you up on this offer? I have a person who committed a murder in 1922 and went to trial in 1923. I just found references to- I think- four other Mountjoy visits between 1907 and 1922 on the LDS site- could you look up the details if I send you what I have from LDS? No worries if not! :)

Alas, it wasn't my unionist great-uncle, but only my Citizen Army great-aunt, his little sister.

Sure :) Send me the details in a PM, along with your email address (as the Boards PM system won't let me attach images).

Just to update on this, Alicat very kindly sent me on lots of info on this terrible relative of mine who seemed to have been in & out of prison his whole life, all over the country. I'll be busy til Christmas figuring out handwriting & abbreviations, and following up on all the witnesses etc mentioned, not to mention finding newspaper reports for each crime for further details! Thanks again Alicat :)
