    Hi,

I've been looking everywhere for an engine for my Maxum (Merc 5.7 V8) and I've gotten a great price for a refurbished one from Chera Marine in Bradford in the UK.

Has anyone on here ever heard of them or dealt with them? If so could you let me know. I'm asking as they don't have a website and I haven't been able to find out anything about them.

    Thanks in advance
    YB

Hi yawlboy I don't no about chera marine but I did look everywhere for the best price of a recon long block for my boat and found when you add on the shipping marine parts direct were very close if not better on price than most, worth a look if you have not already done so. http://www.marineparts.ie/engine-parts/mercruiser/engine-parts-1-2/long-blocks/reman-longblock-gm-5-7l-v8-95-99.html

Hi, know this is an old post but just wondering if you brought the recon engine from Chera Marine? I am looking at getting a 5.7 v8 from them as well and just trying to find out if all was ok with it.

Thanks for any advice you can give J.

The engine arrived about a month after it was supposed to. Distributer cap was broken, sensors missing, plug leads cracked, everything was painted black - including spark plugs, jubilee clips etc.

My mechanic asked an engine specialist to come and have a look - he spent two mins looking at it and said - Pack it up and send it back. The inside of the Carburettor was rusty and looked abused.

Then my mechanic put his camera phone up the exhaust risers, one was a bit black. The other one (starboard) looked like it had been on the bloody titanic for the last 100 years.

Utter ****e - pardon my language but it was a complete joke.

He offered to send me another engine in a few weeks if I wanted to return that one - I said no way send me back my cash immediately and I will let you collect this POS.

He did send the cash back (I lost a little on the exchange rate)

Old saying - If it looks too good to be true...... you know the rest

Are you looking for a complete engine or a long block.

Yawlboy they had some nerve sending you that crap, this is the type of thing that could leave you stranded at sea

How about a 4.3 http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/boatextras/4545923 there is only about 50hp in the difference I also might know where there is another one a bit cheeper if your interested, very few 5.7's around after the bad winter a few years ago a lot of cracked blocks that year

Fergal, if the boat originally had a V8, will the gear ratio In the outdrive be ok for a V6?

He should be ok going down in hp and make up the difference by changing the prop. I did it once where I took out a v8 diesel and put in a 3L petrol just to get me out on the water :D

I used Chera Marine and dealt with a guy called Kully, after reading this one bad review earlier on in this thread I was a bit worried what I would receive but for the price they quoted I took the leap of faith & a few days later I'm a happy man, I have to give them credit where credit is due I am ecstatic with what I received, Volvo Penta 5.7 Vortec with the correct casting numbers, I asked him not to fix down the heads so I could see what I'm getting & on inspection it looks like a new engine.

Glad to hear it Tim. Hopefully all his customers are this happy, however I won't be going back there.
