Ah, you're just jealous of them.

    Ba-dum-tish!

As omuch as I love this game, I abhor the interface for improving your characters in terms of weapons, armour, upgrades and the improvement process.

    It's so counter-intuitive. I need a youtube vid.

I spend 2 hours questing, and like Skyrim, I go "home" and review my spoils/upgrade my characters. However, it's a pain in my arse to do anything and I end my night in annoyance instead of a feeling I had a great night of gaming.

Agreed, I wish it was like Amalur in that way, no nonsense equiping the best gear available.

Agree. I find the process a bit annoying so I haven't really bothered to craft anything yet. I get the feeling that I need to find a lot of Rare materials to make any decent gear. Most of my guys are running around with blues and purples to begin with so I'm not seeing the point yet.

...mind you that still hasn't stopped me buying every schematic, plan or recipe that I can get my hands on.

I love messing around and getting the best out of what I have found, but it's do damned counter-intuitive!

I great a light armour leg upgrade only to find that there is no explanation how to attach them.

The tutorials at the beginning tell you that. You build the upgrade if necessary at the smithy, and then go to the armour upgrade station to attach it. The interface is messy alright, but it is very simple, and even if you weren't told what to do, it is piss easy to figure out.

That being said going through the sheer amount of loot can be tedious. As such, I have gotten back into old habits of checking each piece of gear as I pick it up. I've found going through your characters by class when accessing your spoils to be very helpful in getting through it all in an orderly fashion also.

Still, this doesn't take away from the game really in any way.

I'm playing a DPS mage, so I find using Solas to barrier and life ward, with Cassandra tanking. I was using Varric, but after switching Sera to dual daggers, I find her much more lethal.

I'm having a hell of a problem with the part after the mages, where it's just you and mr moustache down in the pit. He sucks!

lol, eh, did you remember to level him up? He starts with all the XP you do but all of his points are unspent.

It wasn't letting me for some reason, so eventually I loaded from a save right before and went through the cutscene again, etc. then it allowed me to level him up and it was a piece of cake.

I am a couple of hours in, not too impressed with the talent tree to be honest. I was expecting big things from this game, but I find it to be average. I am playing on hard at the moment and I am either slaughtering enemies with ease or getting my ass handed to me. There's no real middle ground so far.

lots more talents become available later on too

Yup, just finished act 1 and the game just opened up so much more, and already thought there was so much to it. New powers wash out some of the rinse and repeat elements also.

Finding that tactician renewal thing handy, ive already changed three styles.

Ranked up three times today but haven't had the need to upgrade any of my skills yet. Still beasting my way through most enemies so figured there's no need to upskill just yet

Picked it up last night in argos. Was looking for something to play on ps4, as it was really getting netflix burned in to it :pac:
Played only a bit over an hour and only did introduction thing, but I do want to come back home from work and play some more of it, so I guess it's a good sign.

Just a few things that really push me off and I had the same issue with mass effect 3. I am actually surprised why no reviews mention it in browser games, but they always do for other games. So voice acting is just horrible. Animations and voice acting itself feels so rubbery and unnatural. I know it's open world game with multiple conversation options, but come on. Games like witcher manage to have fantastic voice acting in same situation.
I might be just a batching queen, but it really puts me off and destroys that little immersion that you get from games after playing them for 2 decades...
Other then that game looks good. For some reason I was given a female character. I don't know where I was supposed to choose gender... So now I am an ugly female dwarf warrior lol. Funny thing is that I will give it a go. I usually play males in games like that and try to mimic everything what I would do in the games. I guess this will be my next gen experiment :D.

Very enjoyable but a few minor gripes.

I really need to sit down and read the history of this world. I have lost count of the number of times when one of my characters have asked a question you know he/she is going to approve/disapprove...

    e.g.

Do you believe that the majes sould be free or part of the circle.

    A-Yes...Blah blah
    B-No...Blah blah

What I really need is a...

C-I'm sorry, I really don't have a fcuking clue what you're on about darling.

I'm really enjoying this game a lot, but the lack of storage to stash stuffs is pathetic for a game this huge. :( I also read that you just don't go all out and sell all the valuables/junks since some of those are for research and requisition.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,743 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

their flavour text tells ye - but to be safe, i've always gone to the reqy table first then to the vendor with valuables, the rest ye can safely flog i think

fair enough if that's your opinion after an hour - but tbh the voice acting and actors are top notch imo (80+ hours in at this point), what did you mean about browsers?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭GodlessM

Voice acting is fine, but the animations don't go too well with it all the time. This isn't because of how they developed the game however, that is just the game engine that it is built on.

FutureGuy; I take from your comment that you never played DA: O or DA2?

Spell checker lol. It ment to be Bioware.

I dont know how can you call it top notch. It is overly overplayed by a good few main characters. It feels like I am surrounded by Robots, not human beings. Animation and voice acting is just stiff and Robotic when it comes to conversations and just general out of combat situations.
You dont need 80h to see if voice acting and animations are a bit ****.

I am still looking forward to play some more tonight though.

like i said, that's a fair enough opinion but not one i share, i've always liked the voice acting in bioware games. The reactions might sometimes push the boundry of being a game to being movie quality and then it has some shoddy parts where the actor/ress soudns as though they didnt know what way to say the given line, however those are fewer and further between in the last two BW games imo.

Also, if you've chosen a female with the chirpy voice (that's Specialist Traynor from ME3) she's woeful - I'd suggest the other voice. I know she sounds very gruff with the two lines of speech in the character creation screen but she's a much better actress and that becomes very obvious after the first five minutes in. Suits the part completely, at least from a dwarf female that i've been playing. Not too girly and not too manly, they got the porridge just right with her and imo she should be the default voice for all the female characters. But whatever floats everyone's boats

I'm still curious how one misses the gender selection process :P

No clue lol. Where was it? I just chose class and race by cards and then it just droped me to choose face, voice etc.

degrassinoel: Ironically enough main character voice acting is not an issue. The worst so far was that short black haired woman with "balls". Its just soooo over played. Matching it with very stiff and lifeless face animation makes it cringe worthy.
I remember that cut scene after introduction after they droped games logo after. The whole scene was supposed to make it feel epic and amazing, but it was just.... Bad....

Saying all that, I just turned on heating and I will go to my bedroom. Make a pillow throne in bed and fire up dragon age for tonight. I see a few beers in my future too! :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭GodlessM

It was at the same point; there are three cards to choose. Gender is the very first one.

She was the same in the last game, and never became likeable - give her a chance, she's got a lot more personality than you've been able to see so far - trust me :)

It's not about liking her or not liking her as a character, it just she sounds like a train wreck lol.

Anyway, started from a scratch again. Just cannot deal with being a female in game like this lol. I play games like this as main character being me. So yeah.... Female was not working out lol. Made a lovely grey haired dwarf :D.

The animation on her walk through the ranks of soldiers right before the DA Inquisition screen is pretty bad. She's lifting her feet like she's got a stick up her ass. And her armour is painted on - you can see the "metal" texture flexing and folding like it was cloth.

Its nitpicking because visually its overall very good, but the scene was unnecessary in any way and its highlighted weak points. Why include it.

They seem to be fairly consistent on the voices though: Dwarves tend to be American, Dalish elves are Irish, everyone else is English except for the odd French person. I guess, despite it being Orlais, the idea of everyone putting on a fake French accent didn't make it past the initial design stage.

The writing is better than I feared from the original trailer. Overall positive.

Yeah, the women walk in a very manly way, but that seems to be an overall Bioware thing I noticed. Only other visual nitpick I would have seen if when you release the water from the dam, and some comes through the rocks. But again, nitpicks. It doesn't take away from the game one bit, and games are never perfect. It is what DA needed though, and that's what counts. I think it will take time to garner full reputation though as the game is more than what typical DA and ME fans are used to; unfamiliarity breeds dislike at times.

Except Cassandra, she walks like a duck. :) It's so gard to watch it. It makes you laugh and cry.

Also try to jump before starting talk with someone. With right moment, you can later fly arounf like a ghost. :)

But the Story is AWESOME! BEST STORY IN THE YEAR! And because of the super good story, this game is game of the year! Once you are connected it's really hard to put that game away.

I have not slept in a week. ok slight exaggeration, but almost true.
