It all depends on whether you did it before or after the ball. Their order is interchangeable and whichever you do first is the halfway point pretty much. The pacing of the main story is odd though.
I did it before the ball - better do the ball so before it's too easy.

Does it matter which order you do them in? Storyline wise? That's the exact point I've been at for days but ive been doing quests and clearing maps instead. I'm at the thirty hour mark or so.

Only for radiant events such as character dialog.

I have been plagued with CTD's lately and it was getting worse to the point that I could only play for a few minutes before it crashed

Got him. Very satisfying. Only problem is he dropped a unique dagger......and I don't use a dagger rogue so its a bit of a shame.

You know what makes the encounters with dragons harder? The stupid A.I. A massive burning furnace from where the dragon launched a fireball a moment ago....and the A.I. just walks straight through it. Beyond stupid and very easy to program against. I enjoy microing fights but having to tell the A.I. not to kill itself isn't micro. They should just know that already. Parrying a dragons hit is very cool though.

Finally picked it up in the EA sale on Xbox last week. I know people have said that the Hinterlands isn't a great introduction but it's boring the arse off me right now. I'm level 5 and have completed the quests to
clear out the Mages, Templars and mad wolves and am about to put up those watch-towers the horse guy wants
. Would it be alright to move on now?

Hope the standard of side-quest picks up too. Finding random notes and letters telling to you go to a certain place is already old.

Leave the place. For sure. You can come back later.

Alexius on Nightmare = Nightmare. That's what I've learned so far this week.

    Had you been talking to
    Solas
all along ? I had been and thought the end to be pretty decent, certainly not as bad as others made out. The boss fight was poor though I thought.

I had been talking to him. He didn't feel like he was part of the group through out. Always disappointed with my decisions. This is the first dragon age I've played, thought it was a very good story ,very deep in story/codex. lots to take in. I'll start a second play through. I was playing a rouge double dagger. Might play it on nightmare difficulty. Any tips on what class to play?

Agreed completely. Cory is one of the easiest bosses in the game. Found so on Hard even. Cut scene definitely hit that 'holy ****' spot alright though, even the second time around.

Leave the Rogues at home on Nightmare; they just die. You need maximum potential damage mitigation to survive and it can take quite some time to get the hang of playing so cagey. I have found double Warrior and double Mages (for double Barriers and Dispels) to work grand most of the time for Nightmare. Still hella tough time though.

Have to agree, i didnt expect it at all but i have to say once i defeated the last boss and
Solas went missing, I started to wonder where he had gone.
. Really enjoyed the game, put in over 75 hours.

Finished it a few days ago. Honestly apart from
    the Solas revelation
, it was a pretty underwhelming ending.

Perhaps Mass Effect had spoiled me a little so I was thinking that
I would have some sort of impossible game-defining decision to make regarding my team. Sacrifice X or Y to save the world. In the end, it was underwhelming. Yay, we won.

Overall, I am very happy I played it. Will be picking up DA2 sometime this week.

My wife, who has never been more than a platforming/puzzle player has lost her life to this in the last week. Adores it. :D

Well, assuming you-know-who may turn dark, having a simple finish might seem like the calm before the storm. After all, it would be easily the most powerful being we will have ever encountered.

Melee rogues tend to die for sure....and the ranged rogues die too because they run into melee but you can tweak their A.I. to make them better. Turn off traps and set their behaviour to "follow" themselves. They stay out of trouble a lot more then. And if you are controlling the rogue yourself, they have a lot of abilities to keep you alive.

It's not like they're the highest DPS or anything

I carried two Rogues at all times during both my Hard + Nightmare playthroughs. AI does like to get killed - but that applies to everything except tanks who simply take a longer time doing it.

My Inquis in both versions was DagRog so I could control her and handle the damage, while the AI would play at ranged with the lone Mage. Worked perfectly fine.

You don't DPS anything when you are dead. Also DPS is nice and is what finishes the fight, but control is what gets you to that point, and getting your guys killed quickly isn't good. Guns blazing just doesn't work in Nightmare unless you outlevel (which isn't always an option).

I'm glad it worked fine for you, but I found Sera, Cole and Varric all dead weight in Nightmare. Mages can use Fade Step to get out of the way and are generally out of the thick of it as far as possible anyway (though Viv can handle herself int he thick of it).

And yes AI likes getting shot, which is exactly why you need two Warriors for Nightmare. Double Barriers is also a must. Doesn't leave much wiggle room. I've tried them all, and the Rogues just don't cut in at that difficulty IMO. Viv and/or Solas are probably better choices than Dorian too.

If your Inquisitor is a Rogue that's quite a bit different obviously, as you do get more control and far more options, generally becoming more powerful than any other Rogue.

To each their own I guess.

Anyone else playing multi-player find that many players out there seem to not get it? I've found nearly every group I've been paired with tend to just try and run through the level as fast as possible, ignoring loot, often trying to solo mobs way beyond them. Makes it tough to progress your characters and unlock new ones.

Ive just got this today and I dont have a clue!! Just in the Hinterlands now but I feel like I will miss loads so im a little tempted to use a guide for this. Im not property figured out the combat system yet.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Don't use a guide. You'll get the hang of it as you go, and there's not really a whole lot that you can actually miss. And don't be worried about leaving the Hinterlands...i stayed there for too long, and ended up in an area way to high for me.

Also start the game on Hard at least. I started on normal difficulty having not played any DA games before and I haven't had to learn anything about the combat system or had to bother setting characters abilities and tendencies. It makes the game too simplistic and therefore boring as a result in that your just roam around the map ticking off objectives without any fear of dying. While you can change the difficulty during a play through I think I just might finish this one as is and then start from scratch on hard or nightmare if I ever get around to a second run.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭GodlessM

It definitely feels the most 'right' on Hard alright.

I started my 1st game on nightmare and after many, many deaths I reached Skyhold. I haven't used the tactical camera thing. I have a dual rogue.
I have been told things should get easier at this point due to specialisation.

Have to say playing the rogue is very entertaining - only problem is with nightmare on 1st playthrough you do not know what is going to happen i.e. in what order you should do certain things etc.

So I am thinking of playing a quick easy game with a different character in order to determine this.
Or should I just continue ? I'm just afraid of progressing and missing something which is vital on nightmare...!

Keep going on nightmare and keep a few saves in case you need to go back and grind.

Patch 5 is looking like it'll be a big one. The ability to change the Inquisitor look and also party storage (finally!).

I'm not gonna lie; being able to chance armour colour is possibly the best thing that ever happened. Now I can make Light Armour from Dragon Webbing and not look like a neon sign.

Hi I have a stupid question - how do you add or remove upgrades to armor / weapons ?
