Buying SSD

Hi guys, I am looking at getting a SSD as my HD is really dragging down my system.

I would not want to spen more than €150.

Would it be better to install my games or my OS on this?
Also how would I transfer the OS to it, if that would be best?

The most recommended SSD's around here are the Crucial M4 and the Samsung 830.

An SSD's benefits are mostly seen when launching applications, thats why its generally best to have your windows install on the SSD, it'll hugely improve boot-up time. Its recommended that you do a clean windows install on the SSD if you have your windows disk and key.

You should be able to pick up a samsung 830 128GB for around €100-€110, that should be enough space for your windows install and a few games.

Samsung 830 256GB works out about 165 after cashback offer. Its a beast of a drive have installed 3 in the last few weeks.

The last one was on a new i5 laptop and boot time went from over 90 seconds down to 17 seconds to boot and load a web page.

Yeah but is Crucial V4 256GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive any good?

computers made before 2011 typically have slower data transfer capabilities than newer systems, they're best-suited for the Crucial v4 SSD, which was built with these transfer speeds in mind.

Go for the Samsung 830 it's 6gb/s speed (make sure it's connected to a SATA 6gb/s port with a compatible cable when ya install it..

I just installed windows on my htpc which has it and from power to opening google in Chrome is less that 20 seconds

All SATA Cables are not the same. make sure to get a SATA III Cable.

They use the same connections but a SATA I cable will not be as fast as SATA III

It'll usually say sata III on the cable

There is virtually no difference between a brand-new SATA 6Gb/s marked cable made this year and one produced nearly eight years ago as far as performance goes. Expensive cable, cheap cable; long cable, short cable—none of it seemingly made a real difference.

They are all as fast as each other. I know this from testing at work.
